Need help choosing next video card

Thread Starter
Title says it all. Im about sick of nvdia. Sure it has good drivers but i also have had 4 gpu failures this year with them. Wanna try out some ati cards. I never used 'em but i am curious about their quality. Anyways I am having a hard time picking a card. HD 5870, HD 6970, HD 6870. Im looking at those cards. Now im wondering which card is overall great and crossfires fine as well as I want to crossfire later. Thanks in advance

If your going to crossfire, you'll do better with the 6950 or 6970. Scalability is better in the 6000 series over the 5000 series, so don't go with 5870. I owned a 5870, great card at the time but not so much anymore, especially single card.

I owned two 6870's and had micro stutter issues, along with some other issues non-related to this post. I hear the 6950's and higher though do not. Could be the GPU wasn't powerful enough or BARTS not being as good with crossfire as the CAYMAN series.

Those are your two choices, unless you can slurge and get one 6990.

I highly recommend the 6970. I've been running the Sapphire 6970 2gb for awhile now at just stock and have had great performance in games. Just ordered a 2nd one that I will be doing crossfire with and OC .

The 6970's are also known for scaling really well with crossfire.
