Any reccomendations on two CHEAP drives for Raid0?

Thread Starter
I currently have RAID0 set up on two generic 150 gig drives to store my steam content and misc programs on, but its starting to get a bit full.

What I am wondering is this. Is there a "swear by" brand / make / model of cheap storage with Ok speeds? I was looking at the "Green" drives, but they seem to be a bit lame in terms of speed.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I want to spend about £50 - £70 (combined) and have 1 - 2 TB of storage.

Normally I wouldn't ask but Raid is not my strong point and I haven't bought a HDD in years and years.

Green drives are rubbish for speed. Personally, I'd save a little more as for around £85 you could get a pair of very quick Samsung F3 500GB's

"Green" drives aren't lame for speed, they're lame for access time and have a tendency to "power down" to stay within the GREEN terminology Some of them will wreck an array because frankly, it's not what they were designed for.

But I must agree on the F3 vote ^ I'm not a fanboy, but if you had said two drives (omitting the cheap part), I would have said look at a few Western Digital RE4 500Gb drives.

I don't think you can get two 1-2TB HDDs for £70 combined. You will probably have to go for 500 GB

Sorry, I should of made it clearer. I ment to say I want to have UP to 1 or 2 tb of storage for £70. so two 500gb is about right =]

I will probably go for the F3's, they seem to be the best choice so far.

I've been running Raid0 with two F3s on this system for a couple years, love it. (RAID will result in a slower boot time if you use onboard, you should be aware).

Another system has three F0s for years in RAID0 as well, runs great also, sequential speed seems to scale about +90% speed per drive.
