As long as the fan blades on the MSI card don't smack the back of the other, the only concern is heat. I don't know if the MSI card will be able to get any air being that close together. Only thing to do is fire it up and watch the temps.

My 6870 idles at 56C and gets into the mid-high 70's under load. I don't know the exact max temp but I wouldn't let it go over 90C.

The MSI card is drooping. Maybe put it on the bottom instead? Or get a piece of rubber and put it between the cards on the corner near the back to lift and separate (pun).

Good point. I didn't really notice that at first. Putting a small bit of something in there will open up the right side a bit and let some more air in. If it's still too hot after that, you could try removing the shroud so the fans and heatsink are exposed.

You can move the second card to the PCIe white slot so the card has 2 slots of breathing space. You still have the bandwidth of x16/x8. It is not going to hurt the performance by a huge degree.

The maximum full load temps are the one to watch out, for 24/7 daily gaming 65-70°C is desirable. On certain stress test such as Furmark 80-90°C is nothing unusual.

If so, put a 120mm fan on top of the PSU to blow directly to the side of the card, that helps with more airflow to bring the temperature down. That's the best you can do without having to replace casing.
