Anyone have the FX 4100? - Page 3

FX 41xx is 2 module 4 thread= best compared to a dual core
fx 61xx is a 3 module 6 thread = best bompared to a triple core
fx 81xx is a 4 module 8 thread = best compared to a quad core

you guys are letting the BS marketing take hold of reality of these chips

That's true and I support that. Unfortunatly, due to the marketing. OCN has kinda decided that they'll compare a BD module's 2 threads to 2 normal cores.

Stop feeling sorry for yourselves and AMD. They price the chips like they are what we think they should be. Is that so hard to understand? If they priced their 8 cores at the same price as their denebs no one would complain.

Apparently my FX4100 is in my mailbox right now. I can't wait to open it up!! I won't get to do anything with/to it for a few days. I'm SOO upset, me wants to play wiff toys!

This. The FX 41xx is physically a dual core CPU, just like the 81xx is still physically a quad core. A good way to think of the BD modules, is sort of like hardware HT, that's not really even a good way to look at it, but for comparison purposes it works.

Don't let AMD's silly marketing techniques fool you, the fx4100 is a dual core CPU, even though the model number nomenclature makes it sound like it is a quad core.

So basically AMD is lying to people?

We've been saying this for months. These CPU's wouldn't seem so bad if they were marketed properly. vs The Worlds 1st 8 core CPU, with ferocious power, etc.

I'd say it's more creative marketing than lying, they are just using the term "core" differently than they, and Intel have in the past.

Fancy wordplay or not it looks like BD has half as many real cores as it actually does, and i like the analogy of hardware level HT. Im sure there is more to it than that, but for simpletons (such as myself) it gets teh job done.

Four cores = four cores, it's not like ht. Trying to spin off BD as having half as many cores as it really has would be false advertising. The loss of four FPU's in the 8000 series though makes the chips perform more like a quad since they only have four when doing floating point workloads, and for some reason these chips fail even at what they were designed to do. Fact if the matter is, that AMD better hope that there's just a bug holding back performance. Then maybe the architecture isn't as bad as I think and Piledriver with new stepping/enhancements might be worth it. The sad fact of the matter is, that even one of these at 6GHz might not even beat my deneb.
