Adding GPUs to loop. Check my parts list please!

post #1 of 6
Thread Starter
I have just decided that I might be adding my GPUs to my loop. I have come up with a short parts list and I would like some input on it please!

I already have:

XSPC RX360
MCP355 with EK Pump top with res.
EK Supreme HF
XSPC RX120 (not in use)
Random assortment of fans

I was thinking of adding these:

EK VGA Supreme HF x3 (due to non-reference cards)
XSPC RX360
7x Yate Loon Mediums (To replace pick and mix fans)

I am also going to, if I do this, switch my loop to 7/16" tubing on 1/2" barbs without clamps.

So, questions;
Should I add the 120 Rad in or just use the 2 360s? I would rather just use the 2 360's since I think it would be less hassle.
And, do I need ram sinks for the video cards? One of them doesn't have them to begin with and I imagine that since the heatsinks on the other cards heat up to be extremely warm that so long as I provide supplementary airflow it should be ok without the extra heatsinks.
Also, all 3 cards have separate VRM heatsinks already installed with the non-reference coolers.

I would stick some on, they would have had some airflow over them with the stock cooler.

I think the two RX's have it well covered mate.

I Have a feeling that the V2 block from EK will fit the VTX3D 6950s. since its the same as the "PowerColor PCS++ HD6950 2GB GDDR5 (AX6950 2GBD5-P22DHG)" and the EK-FC6970 V2 Block fits that.

Yeah, the full covers will fit on the VTX3Ds but they won't fit on the Sapphire card so I was just going to get the universal blocks for all of them, plus, as an added bonus, I should be able to re-use them when I inevitably update my cards.

But with the RAM what I was thinking was that I would just sit a fan on top of the cards to add some airflow, which I would think would be enough since the Sapphire has no heatsink on the RAM and the VTX cards do but the heatsink heats up to the point that it is painful to touch so I can't imagine that the RAM could possibly be getting cooled by it.

If I were you i'd wait till Nov 1st to get this version of the EK VGA block, since you will be using SLI.

I was thinking of getting one of those, but I can't get the parallel connector over here in the layout I would need for my cards, I'm not even sure they make them at all, since my cards are laid out like this:

If these are the slots in the back of my PC:
||O||||O
Where O is a blank slot and || is one double slot card.

EDIT: I also have a second MCP355 From an old loop sitting around in the garage, would it be worthwhile to add that to the loop for some extra preassure or should one MCP355 be enough?

Alright, so I have ordered the parts, but I do have one slight concern.

http://skinneelabs.com/universalgpu-nv480/8/

The EK VGA Supreme HF is still rather restrictive, so would it be of benefit to add my spare pump in series to boost the pressure? Or do you think one pump would still be capable of providing enough pressure to pump an adequate amount of water through the loop?
