Thread Starter
Hi guys. Need an opinion on an upgrade path. Let me be very clear in that switching to Intel is not an option for me right now. I am trying to decide if I should upgrade with an 1100t, FX-8150/20 or keep the rig I have now (sig rig). While I do some light gaming, the bulk of the reason I need a multi-core processor is for video editing (Sony Vegas, After Effects) and photo editing (Photoshop CS5). These are only hobbies however and not for profit.

Do you think I should upgrade now (which processor) or keep my current system for another year and upgrade then?

Thanks ahead of time.

Edit: Leave the Bulldozer basing/Intel fanboy posts for other threads, they will be deleted here.

I would go with an 1100T if you want more cores for video editing. I would stay away from the FX chips for now. They are huge energy hogs.

I would stick it out for a while. I don't know if you need to wait a year or not but what you have is fine. I was quite happy with my old 955 system.

They are no more energy hogs than first generation Core i7 chips are.

As long as you are content waiting do it. Don't waste your money on old tech with the 1100t, and don't waste ever more on the FX because they are just worse. A new stepping of Bumdozer or even pildriver is what you want IMO.

Easily stay with your 955BE. Its the cheapest and best processor(for most applications) of the three.

Sony Vegas and CS5 will like having more cores. If you got the money to spend and you feel the upgrade is warranted, you should go for it. I got a nice improvement in working with StudioOne,Vegas and Cs5 going from a ph2 x4 to the 1090t.

Phenom II 1100T if you really want an upgrade but I say wait for Ivy Bridge.
