Did I just get ripped off on this 6950? - Page 4

Alright, before this thread starts getting out of hand. I appreciate everyone's help even though I'm a noob. I have another dumb question. I found the 11.6 driver. Do I need to uninstall the 11.9 driver before installing the older version?

Vista and 7 use same drivers. You can try installing different drivers without uninstalling the old ones but I usually wouldn't advise that.

Have you overclocked your CPU? It sounds more like unstable CPU then GPU problems if you can't even uninstall drivers.

Uninstall your current driver. Reboot into safe mode. Use something like driver sweeper and clean out all the ATI driver stuff. Reboot and install the new drivers.

Oh ok sorry

I have set the CPU back to stock at 3.3GHZ and I ran Prime95 Blend last night for about 10 hours, no problems.

1. Uninstall current driver
reboot
2. Do a driver sweep
reboot
3. Install the "new" drivers

If it doesn't work its broken.

I doubt this is a driver problem. You didn't go from a Nvidia card to AMD to it should be a problem to just uinstall the AMD drivers you had and then install the AMD drivers you needed for your 6950.

You could uninstall current drivers, then boot to safe mode and use Driver Sweeper to clean off all the old driver fragments. Then reboot and perform a fresh install of the latest drivers.

Side note:

I wonder if this was a 6950 that was fully flashed to a 6970 (possibly frying the memory chips as they are not the same as the chips found on the 6970) and then flashed back and sold to you. Hopefully this is not the case.

It may be an idea to use OCCT and Afterburner to test stability. You could run OCCT and watch for errors and slowly increase voltage or decrease clocks to see if the errors go away.

actually you can uninstall it in device manager.be sure and check the "delete drivers" thing...then reinstall it..on the amd website..there should be a "previous versions" tab

Sounds like I'm gonna have to send this back. Although I'm not sure yet what the refund policy is buying 'Used' on Amazon. If it's not returnable I'll leave a nice 1 star on his seller rating and flame him til no end.

did removing the CPU over clock not fix things?

doesn't matter, was it advertised as a faulty used card? I expect no, best let seller know asap. Tell him you are testing it, make sure he knows what you are doing and not someone he can rip off.
