Looking for a thread...........

So there was this thread on here months ago (before i was a member) and it compared the GTX 470 to the GTX 560TI, and it has actual game benchmarks and compared them for overclocking, and it showed that the GTX470 @900 destroyed the GTX560Ti@1ghz, does anyone have a link to that thread.

Well, just looking at hardware specs alone, the GTX 470 has 448 shaders while the GTX 560 Ti has 384. So, I'm not surprised that a GTX 470 @ 900 MHz core can beat a GTX 560 Ti at 1 GHz core.

The problem is...it is a LOT harder to get a GTX 470 to 900 core stably, even with lots of voltage. Add that to the fact that 470s are already hot-running cards, and you really need to have good cooling to be able to run those kinds of clocks.

Most 470s top out at around 800-825 MHz core, even with extra voltage.

GTX 560 @ 1 GHz performs around the same as a stock GTX 480:

GTX 470 overclocked to 800 MHz would give that level of performance, so if you could clock a 470 up to 900 MHz core then it would be faster.

I dunno about the thread, but I do know that, on average, w/both cards at their max OC's, a 470 will slightly edge out a 560ti, but it's likely to only be a few % different.

In particular the 470 is stronger when doing tessellation, because of the 4 GPC layout of GF100 vs. the 2 GPC layout of the GF114 (and tessellation unit count being tied to GPC count).

Basically though they're close enough in perf that they should have identical 'max playable settings' in nearly all cases, save for the very occasional times when the extra 25% the of memory the 470 has comes into play.

560ti does put out quite a bit less heat though, and uses less power ... so which one is 'better' mostly depends on price and how well your case cools ... plus what cooler is on each particular example of the cards you're comparing.

As quick advice, I wouldn't recommend running that high on a 470 without a loop.
