1200p laptop output to 1080p TV - Not filling screen

Thread Starter
I have a 1200p laptop hooked to my TV through HDMI, and I'm using XBMC to play movies. It's set to only display to the TV, and it's set at 1080, yet there is 1inch or so black bars on the left and right of the display, and videos that are 720p or 1080p look like standard def. How can I fix the screen size?

you need to adjust your overscan in your video settings.
What video does the laptop have?

Radeon mobility hd 3650. I changed the tv to "cinema zoom" and it seems like it may have fixed it. I couldn't find any overscan or anything like that in CCC.

Check your TV and make sure your HDMI ipnut is on "through". you should not have to zoom anything..

Cool I'll check that out, the cinema zoom thing seems to be working pretty well, from what we can tell by zooming/unzooming it's not cutting anything out, just makes it fit correctly

If you have a reciever in the middle HTPC->Reciever->TV make sure the reciever HDMI input is also on "through" or "pass-through". I had the same type of issue with my Quadro FX3500 card where it was over scaling my screen. HTPC DVI->VGA to the reciever and HDMI from reciever to the TV and I thought it was just the card. But it was the TV and reciever settings. Now it fits perfect with no zooming or anything.

You need to set your video card to scale to fit.
