570 keeps underclocking itself - Page 2

If the GPU usage is also low (below about 25%) at the time it's happening, then this is totally normal behavior from Fermi cards. It's basically just a power-saving feature ... if your GPU usage is low, the card may as well downclock from Hi-Power 3d to Lo-Power 3d clocks ... this should cause the GPU usage to go up, and your FPS to remain the same as it was before. It's really only indicative of 'a problem' (somewhere, not necessarily w/your card) if your FPS is falling when the clocks drop. So ... is that the case?

Low GPU usage, in term, is pretty common w/online games like WoW, esp. when there's a lot of units on the screen. It's generally caused by some type of bottleneck (could be CPU, could be the NIC/internet ... could be lots of things) in the system somewhere.

How does the card react when you run somethign like 3dMark11 or Heaven? As long as the clocks jump up to hi-power 3d when you run something demanding, then I wouldn't worry about there being a problem w/your card.

the way i usually notice that it is underclocked, i load up a game, Battlefield 3 for example, and i only get around 25 FPS, which is terrible for my 570, as soon as i restart my computer, the gpu resets and my games run fine

everything looks fine, except for the low FPS, temps are always fine, never above 70, and no, it stays underclocked in the game

this problem still happens. if i leave my computer running 24/7, which i always do, seems to randomly underclock itself. only a reboot fixes it.
