PCI cooling for gtx 480

Thread Starter
So newegg had a sale of gtx 480s for 200 bucks and lucky me I got one before they sold out. I have no idea if they are refurbished or what but it didn't say anything.
It will be in a NZXT Phantom with 1 140 intake, 2 120 side intake (near hd), 2 200mm out at the top and 1 120 out in the rear. I just don't have the money/experience to add a block or even aftermarket cooler so I was wondering if a PCI Fan would help at all (Yes PCI Fan lol)

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6835888112

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6835106083

Would something like that actually help? I wish they didn't have freaking lights.. goddamm.

In the case you have those will provide you with no help.

Just download afterburner when you get it and make a fan profile.

Looks like the third only exhausts ho air out of your case and the top 2 blow air to your card. Does your case have a sidefan mount? That would help more since you could blow cold air in from the side.

I don't think it'll help that much. The problem with stock heatsinks is the lack of surface area, not airflow. You may see a slight improvement but nothing nearly as big as getting an aftermarket cooler.

Just create a Custom fan profile in MSI Afterburner program and enable it..

This is profile that I use ..

I get 90C max under load and overclocked @ 850/1025MHz with 1075mV and 80C @ STOCK clocks..

Yes it's a bit noisy but you really don't have any other choice if you want to keep your card cool with a stock cooler:

My nh d14 is too tall to fit a 200mm fan on the side which was my fault for not researching. Would the 480 fan be as loud as my 460 EE at the same speeds? 50% is pretty loud already which is usually what its at until it passes 60C.

My Antec 920 also prevented me from getting a side fan, but one of these fit on my sidefan there really slim but do more some air inside the case. There pretty thin just mounted it wiht some double-siede tape and it works like a charm

If you want to know how loud a GTX480 with a stock cooler is just run Afterburner and change fan speed with a slider (to 80 - 90%)..

It's a damn hair dryer dude but you need to have it ~ 80% to avoid overheating..

My card hits 90C with fan ramp up @ 90%.. (OC'd @ 850/1025MHz , 1075mV) and @ stock clocks/voltage it hits 80C w/ fan @ 80%..
