Visiting U.S. Sandy Bridge Build [BUYING LIKE CRAZY @ microcentre]

Hi all,

I will be visiting the US in a few weeks time and need some U.S. residents' advice on where to purchase my goodies. I'm a long term lurker, and I've overheard more than a few times that microcentre is THE BARGAIN house for PC parts (in-store sales).

http://www.microcenter.com/at_the_st...n_heights.html

Is the store I will be dropping by in.

What do I need?
1) CPU
2) Motherboard
3) RAM
4) CPU cooler
5) GPU (if cheap enough)
6) HDD (if cheap enough)

Budget: £200 or $320. Lower the better.

I will be using my existing case, 650W PSU and monitor.
Athlon X2 3800+ @ 2.0GHz with a whopping 3GB of superfast DDR400 memory combined with a HD3870 avec 512MB of DDR4 memory is what I have now. Not exactly fast.

What did I see?

i3 2100 for $99.99!!! Costs $145 in the UK!!!
i5 2500K for $179.99!!! Costs $270 in the UK!!!
i7 2600K for $279.99!!! Costs $380 in the UK!!!

The giant price gap with the i5 2500k makes me want to grab it. For a mere $35 more, I can go from the i3 ($145 uk price) to the i5.

http://www.microcenter.com/search/se...17+4294966995&

However, I'm at a complete loss to which motherboard I should get. I haven't really kept up to date with recent news so much.

Will I be able to take the "rebate savings"? Or do I need to be a US resident for that? I've overheard that you need to mail in some forms or something. I'm only staying for a few days so I won't be able to do that.

Thanks in advance!

I heard that you get 50$ off if you buy a intel mobo there with a processor, but im not sure.

1) CPU: i5 2500k 180$
2) Motherboard: Asrock extreme4 (P67=160$) (Z68=190$)
3) RAM: Corsair Vengence 4 GB 1600 MHz 45$ Patriot stuff around 25$ with rebate
4) CPU cooler: Hyper 212+ 30$

I'd go with the Extreme 4. Maximus is a waste

I see.
Do you need a good motherboard to push the 2500k when OC'ing?
I've seen people skimp out on the cheapo 'ASRock M3A770DE' to OC their PII 955s. Is there not the same kind of thing for Intel CPUs?

I'd go with the i5 2500k, the asrock p67 extreme4 gen3 and some gskill sniper ram. All work fine together.

I paid $269 for my sig rig CPU and mobo at MC, but they were out of stock of the UD3 mobo that I wanted (combo would have been $289).

Dilema

i3 2100 + basic p67/z68 board
$100 + $100 = $200

OR

i5 2400 + basic H61 board
$150 + $50 = $200

I won't be overclocking with those locked multipliers....so my common sense points me towards the i5 2400. Or would it be a better future investment to purchase the newer more up to date p67/z68 board with the i3 2100?

Thanks for all the replies so far!
