2x PCI Express x16 run at x16 or x8 in SLI?

Hello everyone! I am new here and I hope I'll enjoy your forums and not upset anyone .

I open this thread because I am in doubt about some motherboards specs, and to be more exact I am in doubt about the PCI Express speeds in SLI/Crossfire...

So I was wondering if a mobo with the following specs: PCI Express 2.0 (x16 / x16 / x8 / x8) means that two of the mobo's PCIe slots will run at x16 speed in SLI/Crossfire mode, or will they run at x8 speed (in SLi/Crossfire), even if in single mode both of those slots would each run at x16?

What motherboard and chip do you have?

I do not have one yet, but i am in process of figuring out a configuration that would fit my needs for mild CAD applications and I was looking at a http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Int...WS_Revolution/

So about this board, if in the future I want to hook up two video cards on it in SLI let's say...will they run at x16 or will theyt run at x8?

p.s. i'm going for the SB 2600k processor

* I've seen the specs on the producer's web page...but I'm not 100% sure about this x16 /x8 option in SLI mode...

They'll run is x8/x8.
Don't be to stressed about it. The difference between x16/x16 and x8/x8 isn't that big of a deal

your semi right.

2 will run at x16/x8, 2 will run x8/x8.

What are you trying to do, run quad fire?

With that mobo it'll run at x16/x8. Your mobo has a NF200 chip so it'll compensate.

Also, i wouldn't worry about running at x8/x8, unless you plan to use dual-GPU cards (like two GTX590). Most cards can still run more than fine on x8/x8.

ok, so I would like somthing that would run on x16/x16, is there a mobo out there that would do that with a 1155 CPU socket on? Or is there any mobo that would do x16/x16 on any other CPU socket? The chipset does not quite matter, I am just trying to figure out this x16...x8 speed problem atm

@ Starbomba
well...that being sayed, I have to say that I've allready purchased my video card which is a http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=3830#sp so the dual GPU on one card like the 590 is out of the question...

So you say that a mobo capable of x16/x16 would not influence AT ALL the performance of two GTX 580's? Or will a x16/x16 mobo influence that performance maybe just a bit compared to a x8/x8...?
