Sandy Bridge Motherboard Comparisons

Hi everyone,
I have a question between the performance of this board:
GIGABYTE GA-H67M-D2-B3
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16813128473

with this one:
Gigabyte Z68X-UD4-B3
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=61148

Both appear to have SLI, but the Z68X-UD4-B3 is about $119 more. Can someone please explain why this is the case?

And with the exact same components on both boards would I see any lessened performance with the cheaper board?

I will most likely be running a 2500K with the board that I choose for gaming and desktop usage.

You cannot overclock on the first board, the second board is much better.

First board is also a Micro ATX, which is unnecessary unless you have a small case. Plus Z68 is a much better chipset, SLI will only run in 4x4 on the H67.

Oops, and I just realized the DDR3 memory is only 2-slot for the GIGABYTE GA-H67M-D2-B3, plus it doesn't support 12800. I guess I should scrap that board after all...

In terms of similar boards would you suggest the Gigabyte Z68X-UD4-B3 that I posted a link to above or the ASUS P8P67 PRO? (Also, $50 cheaper)

And how do I determine if this is the case for other SLI motherboards that I am looking at?

Is the ASUS P8P67 PRO able to handle SLI at full speeds?

There's only about $20 difference on Newegg, but they are pretty much equivalent really.

So its down to brand preference, or whichever is cheaper. Your call.

The PCIE bandwidth is limited. The H67 has one slot a 16x and one a 4x, if running two cards it will run at the lower bandwidth. Decent boards have one 16x and one 8x, so they will run at 8x8 in most cases.

And some higher end boards will run 16x16, but that's really only noticeable when running multiple screens. 8x8 is perfectly fine for a single screen.

I run dual monitors for desktop usage but I only use a single monitor while gaming. (However, I don't actually unplug my other monitor, I just turn off the power)

Should I get 16x16 or will 8x8 work, even if my other monitor is turned off but still plugged in while gaming?

Or maybe I should just scrap SLI completely and just use one card at x16.. SLI with my GTX480s will most likely run pretty hot anyways.. the Lightnings are pretty big 3 slot GPUs.

"PCI Express 2.0 x 16 (x16/0 or x8/x8, x4)"

Does that mean x16 is the speed that's available for one video card and 8x8 is the speed while running two video cards?

If its on the desktop you will be fine. You can still use 8x8 on multiple monitors, the difference between 16 and 8 is just more noticeable.

16/0 means it will run at 16 with one card, 8/8 runs at 8 with two cards. And the 4x is a third PCIE slot.
