Computer Hardware store in NYC (intel build - 2500K)

Hey dudes!

Fist of all, I apologize if this is not the right section to post this (I wasn't sure on where to put it. Since it's about a intel build, I figured this is the right place).

Anyway....

I'm in time for an upgrade (my old C2D pal finally passed away after 5 years of good service ). I'm from Brazil, and computer hardware is way overpriced in here.

Luckly enough, my sister will spend a couple weeks in NYC in late november. So I'll ask her to bring me some parts for my build.

I want to get a 2500K, a nice affordable mobo (I need suggestions here, please!), 8Gb of ram and a VGA.

I'm lookingto spend about USD500, but I think I can go a little higher if the deal is good enough.

I just want a reliable system for gaming (BF3 in mind). Mild overclock maybe (hence the choice for a K processor). I guess a 2500k, midrange mobo, 8gb and a 560ti/6950 will do the job.

She'll stay at the Edson Hotel, which I belive is located at this adress: 228 West 47th Street
New York, NY 10036, Estados Unidos
(212) 840-5000

I was looking at microcenter (because of the sick deals they offer), but the nearest one is 15 miles away in northern NY. Is it easy to get there by public transport? If so, does anyone now which route/bus-metro lines to get?

If not, where's a good plane to buy these parts in NYC?

So that's bassically it. Sorry for the long post. If anyone can help me with this, I'll be imenselly grateful.

Thanks!

PS: excuse my poor english!

microcenter in yonkers is the best bet, and you can take the subway out to the bronx and catch a bus to there (it's in the cross county mall).

Why not simply order it on newegg, NCIX, etc and just have it shipped to the hotel she's staying at?

Pretty much ends up cheaper or same price thanks to tax.

Also, i wouldn't recommend a tourist try to navigate NYC public transit to get to yonkers. Not worth the time and annoyance.

About those mobos... what's the difference between the extreme 3 and 4?

Is it possible to do that? I thought those e-tailers would only ship to an american customer (i mean, they wouldn't ship to hotels and stuff; you'd have to enter a valid US home adress, etc.)

Because if I could order online, it'd be perfect. And about eh tax, what you mean "cheaper because of tax"? Online taxes are less expensive?

I've been to Canada once, and I guess they use a similar tax system as you guys, right? I remember that we had to put 13% on top of everything we bought. Is it like that in NY (the % might be different I know)?

Companies will ship to any valid mailing address. A hotel counts, and in fact, is nice since there's someone there to sign for packages if need be.

Online orders(mostly) are not taxed if the store does not have a physical presence in you state. So buying from newegg, tigerdirect, NCIX does not incur sales tax.

NY sales tax is ~8.9% right now.

I used to do it all the time when I went on business trips. Just mailed all company materials to my hotel rather than lug it with me. Just double check to make sure the company you purchase from is ok with shipping to your hotel.

You can check or J&R or H&B.Both are in the city. There is a microcenter in westbury long island. If she isn't used to the NYC public transportation system getting to the one in yonkers might be harder. But definitely check out J&R or H&B. But i have taken the train to the one in westbury long island before and its really easy. Just take the LIRR.

Order online and have them shipped to her hotel. I would advise you to do it ahead of time, some companies will need to hold your payment for 24 hours or so just to verify its valid.
