Sapphire TOXIC HD-6950/70 Owners Club & Informational Thread - Page 118

Got back my SECOND Toxic after the first RMA was a failure. So far so good... but the outside plastic casing looks like a cat scratched it mad.gif
So this means cats handle the RMA process for Sapphire? wth.gif

Aside from the first RMA failure, the RMA process was actually fast and convenient, maybe i'll stick with sapphire.

Anyone here want to buy a toxic? lol

Can someone with a similar spec to mine test out CS Source @ 1080p max settings? I remember being able to get 200+ fps, now im only getting 100-150 average, sometimes into the 80s and 90s. It seems like they never really fixed anything.

You don't have to download anything to do anything hard. all you need is GPU-z. and the Toxic 6950 installed. Open up GPU-z and look at the shader count. If the shader's are at 1408 then its 6950 mode. If the number is 1536 then its unlocked.
If your GPU-z is showing only 1408 go ahead and shut down and flip the BIOS switch on the card, its small and hard to miss but is right next to where the Xfire bride plug's into the card. Once you flip the switch restart the PC and check GPU-z and see if your card unlocked or not. If it unlocks that will be sick! of not its not the end of the world.
After that just plug in the 6970 in the proper slot on the mobo, hook up the power line's and plug in the Xfire bridge. Open AMD CCC and turn on eyefinity. Simple:)

hey, thanks a bunch. my 6950 didn't unlock but i wasn't too worried about it. I've got both cards up and running now- everything on max settings running smooth =)
I'll upload a pic when I'm not on my phone
the only issue is case space. I need to have both cards smooshed up against each other which doesn't allow for much airflow to the fan on the 6970. but I've got the case fans on high for gaming, plus msi afterburner going, and I haven't seen it get about 65 degrees under load and fans never above 50% of their speed.

do you think that's too hot for them if I game for several hours at a time? I could always set the fan cure differently and try to keep the temps a bit lower.

No way! Most people run their cards in at least the 70*C's, and a lot of people run theirs in the 80*C's with some in the 90*C's.

dude thats absolutely fine! what a great result for 50% fan speed in a crossfire config! i have a single card and it hits around 70c max when gaming and the fan has to go to about 60-65% to achieve that. no worries there mate thumb.gif

Just like the others have said, your perfectly fine. I'll game in silent mode(well as silent as the toxic cooler allows) and lock the fan at 45% temps get warm (up to 80-85c but its perfectly safe). The max thermal temp is just over 100c (I think its 1.4 but i might be thinking of my nvidia card) so don't worry about it, should be good for hour's on end of gaming:)

oh, awesome! but if its any consolation, the only reason they stay good temps with decent fan speed is because the room my machine is in is freezing, so I gotta be all bundled up when I game =p
