also you shouldn't have this other problem with afterburner as it does a good job at holding the powertune, clocks and custom fan profile in place. but i find that sometimes my powertune resets when i restart the computer or on loading custom clock speeds with trixx. also trixx will say im using my custom fan profile but its actually on auto (i can always tell cos it sits at 24% most of the time on auto) so i have to switch it to manual and then back to custom. just a little heads up if you ever decide to use trixx instead of afterburner!
also what sort of framerates you averaging on bf3 and what res are you playing it at?

Wow I hope your bios problem get's fixed. I'm actually using trixx for my custom fan profile and overclocking, I only use afterburner for powertune and checking the stats for my gpu. As for setting the powertune I've started to test and it seemed I was better off at 25%.

I usually get around 50-60fps now (with v-sync), before I had around 40-55fps and rarely ever 60fps, Now I can biggrin.gif
What I'm really looking for now is someone selling another 6950 toxic card that unlocks and 3 monitors. These are going to be my next upgrades. Can't wait to enable eyefinity. And as usual Canada Computers have NONE in stock, being the only seller for these cards anyway.

yeh me to. i paid a lot of money for this graphics card so its pretty disappointing to have it under performing due to the motherboard. i paid a lot for all the components in my build come to think of it! its ironic to cos i had this asrock motherboard before this one which i hated because it couldn't get my 2500k past 4.1ghz. but now i have this asus board ive realised that the graphics card perfomed way better on that asrock board so im no better off with my higher cpu overclock lol! the last bios update made things way more stable though. i haven't experienced those nasty slow downs since. its still quite a new motherboard really so im sure it'll be sorted within the next couple bios releases *shakes fist* >_< i like the way this website decided to put some html code to the left of this writing lol! (which looks like it has now disappeared after writing this! joker website...)

good luck getting another toxic 6950! i dont think you're gonna be able to buy a new one at least! they seemed to go out of stock months back! i want to get another one to. just imagine the power you'd have to play bf3 with them in crossfire! drool.gif haha. you can always just get a 6970 to go with it though as its basically the same thing!

The funny thing is that I had the same problem with my ram cards, it just wouldn't go to the rated speed, it stayed around 1600mhz. It was a pain trying to find out what was causing it, even manually setting them didn't even work, until I found out that there was an option (D.O.C.P.) which makes the mobo automatically set the speed up all by itself, and it worked. All I had to do was change just 2 options, and that's it!

I can just imagine having 1080p BF3 with triple monitor eyefinity. Now that would be awsome. (Frostbite 2 is really something special huh?)
But how would a 6970 work with this card or getting a 6970 from a different manufacturer and crossfire them, would it work?

Yes. You can crossfire a card of any manufacturer card along as it is 6900 series and same amount of ram.

Wow I didn't know that thanks for the info +rep. Guess I'll have to get a different card to crossfire. Have any other great 6970 cards in mind?
That would really help me. Looking at something less than $400.
How about the Asus EAH6970? Thanks

2DI2S or DCII? I wouldn't get the DCII. They both will work, but the DCII has a crappy heatsink for the size.

yeh definitely go for something that has a good cooler on it as things start to get really hot with crossfire. i have found crossfire an absolute nightmare as far as temps go! cpu and motherboard start getting really hot as well as the graphics cards. all your fans have to start working a lot harder. the best way to help keep the noise down is make sure your case has good airflow and even put in a couple extra case fans if needed as 120mm case fans are much quieter than those little fans on the graphics cards! still i will be crossfiring my 6950/70 at some point when i can get a second one cheap enough smile.gif

also please post back and let us know how your experience goes with temps and performance? biggrin.gif

Unfortunetly Canada Computers only has the DCII version. So I guess that one's out. And also I've noticed that the 6970 are also going out of stock in Canada Computers. I would've brought from newegg or another online store but I want to get it soon without paying the shipping and handling.

My plan now is to sit and wait till one comes in stock. Hey doesn't the saphire 6970 flex come with bf3?

why not just look at the ones they do have in stock and then check out some reviews of them or find a temperature comparisson chart? im sure i saw a good one on this site somewhere http://www.anandtech.com/

Not about to come back into stock. Best bet is ebay/OCN classifieds.
