Has anyone tried the new 12.4 drivers for their Toxic yet? Seems like a nice list of fixes, but I don't want to waste my time updating from 12.1 if there aren't any performance gains.

yeh i've been using them. I run a single monitor setup and have only played BF3 since I've had them though so I'm not gonna be a great source of info on them lol. But so far I would say I have noticed absolutely no difference to 12.1. I have used 12.2 and 12.3 for a couple weeks each but I found 12.1 were better so I stuck with them until 12.4 came out. 12.4 are supposed to be better with MLAA with games that natively support it, or something like that. That was the main thing I remember from the release notes. What were the fixes that caught your attention?

Just came in to say that I bought a 1080p 120hz monitor for gaming ONLY. I play FPS. It's so much smoother than my U2711 but the reason that I am posting is, BF3 maxed out completely runs at 90fps. I have only seen it dip into high 50s for a split second during a massive fight. It's incredible. I don't think I have a reason to upgrade for a long time. Very happy camper smile.gif

I thought about upgrading for 1440p but gaming on 120hz is just so much better. There is no way I could use my samsung as a desktop though, resolution too big haha

I used them for a bit, not worth it. There where no performance gains in any game I played, In fact I had a big stuttering issue. The game's affected the worst where: Skyrim, Dirt3, BF3 and SWTOR in order from worst the best. Skyrim was like playing on stop animation mode. Very jittery and my texture's (modded and stock) looked hazy or out of focus. SWTOR had the least amount of stutter and a bit of "noise" in background image's.. kinda hard to explain but it looked weird. Dirt3 and BF3 had random stutter's aswell.
I did 3 clean install's of driver's and reset my OC to stock just to be sure I wasn't the problem. Same results each time. Rolled back driver's and perfect performance was back. From what I can tell the 12.4 driver's are hit and miss across the board. Some people notice no difference while other have issue's(like me) but then I have read a few time's that performance increesed with the 12.4 drivers so it looks like this is a YMMV situation. You should try them your self and report back with what happends:) thumb.gif

Yeh AMD keep releasing crappy drivers since 12.1. I know they don't have as good a reputation as Nvidia for their driver updates but I'm giving them a bit leeway as they've just recently had the release of the 7 series cards and will for obvious reasons want to concentrate on them a bit more right now. I hope they don't just forget us though. I want more BF3 optimisations!

My reasoning exactly. I always give a grace period in this kind of situation.

i just switched to 12.4 from 12.1. i dont really see any difference, but at least they work. 12.2 and 12.3 were giving me all sorts of trouble.

So my toxic died last night, I tried to turn on my computer and it would light up for a milisecond then shut off. Popped in a different GPU and it works. Has anyone RMA'd this card? How long is the process? Do they send you a brand new 6950 or a refurb?
