Looks like AMD are gonna start putting more effort into their drivers rather than just bringing out a new one every month with no improvements but a different number on it. I'm just about to try this 12.6 Beta driver. Did any of you try the 12.5 Beta driver? Any good? I never tried it but it looks like they probably wont release a final 12.5 seeing as we're into June now.

If by more effort you mean releasing drivers less often.
If you thought Nvidia were slow to release drivers... Just wait lol

Well I'm hoping they are going to become more like Nvidia and release decent drivers as and when they are ready and properly tested instead of just being pressured to rush them out every month. There's no point in new drivers every month if they barely do anything! We'll see how they go, but if AMD don't get their act together with drivers then I'm probably gonna get an Nvidia card next time round! The last Nvidia card I had was a 8800GTX which is a bit of a legend in my opinion, I had 2 in SLI actually. I remember being really impressed with quite a few of the driver updates, really seeing significant improvements with them. I can only think of a few occasions where AMD drivers have given me that same feeling and I've nearly always used AMD cards in all the years I've been doing this... As for this 6950/70, it was only 11.11c/12.1 drivers that I've seen any noticable improvements with. Anyway enough ranting - back to Max Payne 3 smile.gif

I feel the same way, AMD GPU drivers get "performance" updates once. With Nvidia it is every other month with games seeing improvements up to 20% lol Big difference, easier install/un-install, Nvidia inspector, hell recent Nvidia drivers just gave a huge boost to my wifes 460.... Like a bunch of monkeys in clown suites over at AMD in the driver department since Good ole Rory stepped into play. I was really starting to beleive they were going forward there with drivers after the 11.x series...But now, nope, lost faith smile.gif

Now all Nvidia needs to do is stop locking voltage control rolleyes.gif
I hope the 7xx/8xx gen cards don't get voltage locked.

Hi guys,

I got 2 of these months ago and I am loving them! smile.gif Both unlocked to 6970 shaders. I checked these on my friends rig if they would unlock and they both did. Then I installed on my rig, flipped the switches, booted them up and I have been using them as 6970's ever since smile.gif My only concern is I forgot to save the 6950 bios.. but I have been using them for this long so I don't think I should have any problems.. right? Can I still backup the original bios of these gpu's? How would I go about doing that? Thanks smile.gif

Also guys,

Why do you guys prefer Sapphire TriXX over MSI Afterburner? Because it is from the same manufacturer? In my opnion I like the overall layout of Afterburner much more and Kombustor is really valuable.

But will using TriXX give you better results with overclocking?

I am currently playing BF3 and Witcher 2, both max settings and AA @1080p. Ubersampling is off on Witcher 2.

On BF3 I get 70-90 fps, and I have never seen it drop below 70. Witcher 2, I get 70-100 and it only drops down in the 60's during a very intensive scene.

I'm getting a 1440p monitor so I wanna stay at least above 60 fps. Temps idle in the low 40's and peak around 70-75C while gaming for the first card, 60's C for the second card. What would you consider safe temps for these cards that I should stop at? 80C?

If you want to backup the bios, (there is no real need too) flip the switch and back it up from gpu-z.

Trixx has voltage control on the toxic, afterburner doesn't.

TriXX is better.

Depends on what options you wish to play with. Overall Trixx is a lesser program in comparison to Afterburner IMO. Afterburner has load's more feature's that TRIXX dosn't even support, the only thing trixx has over AfterBurner is voltage control. So it would depend on what is importat to each user. At first I OC'd the snot out of my Toxic, and needed voltage control. Now I have turned down my OC to fit in "factory voltage spec" so I can use the other feature's in After Burner.

If your overclocking: Use Trixx
If your not overclocking: Use AfterBurner

That's how I see it anyway.

I should have made that more clear. For overclocking Sapphires, yes triXX is better. But, you have a point in what you said. I use both and each overclock a different card.

Yea, I'm trying to figure out a how to get trixx and afterburner to play nice together. Still have not had much luck on that one lol.
