Sapphire TOXIC HD-6950/70 Owners Club & Informational Thread - Page 164

Being powercolor, I'd rather just buy a sapphire reference and put my own waterblock on it. :))

Also you missed one:

Another powercolor, looks great too bad I hate the company. I'm really interested in the sapphire, msi and this one.

A special edition Sapphire one would be very nice indeed smile.gif I'd also be happy going with a Gigabyte one though. My current 7970 and my previous GTX670 both have X3 Gigabyte coolers on them. They do really good!

What's a clear upgrade from a unlocked HD 6950. If I were to sell it for 190$ and I'm okay with putting 50$ on top what can I get for 240$

Honestly IMO, if you can only spend $250 and don't want used ... I'd keep the unlocked 6950/70.

Is assasons creed 4(black flag) a bad optimized game or something ? Why can't I run the game anywhere near full settings at 50 fps. I get 30 with high settings and only 2 MAA

I have i7 4770k and 8gig ram and of course my unlocked sapphire 6950 that I think is holding me back

the game gave me trouble with my setup. but there are 2 things that really make your rig eat it. they are: volumetric fog, and draw distance (forget what they call it in this game. environment detail maybe?). i didn't want to lose volumetric fog as it looked really nice and added a lot of atmosphere. so i just put the draw distance to low. did notice texture pop ins but i delt with it. your cpu should fair better than mine though. so you might be good with a higher draw distance. i'd say the gpu is probably holding you back more yeh. just use fxaa. i thought it looked ok and definitely put less strain on the gpu. i actually tried all the levels of aa just to see. they just got more and more blurry as they went up. not like how i usually see aa work. fxaa sometimes blurs things a little. but in this game it actually seemed clearer. seeing as it takes much less gpu power as well - it seemed like the clear choice for me wink.gif

Thanks bud ill try that. Its a gorgeous game but the towns and oceans make the GPU cry lol

AC4 vsync is set at either 30fps or 50/60 (can't remember) so if you can't hold 50/60 it will stay at 30fps.

You can disable vsync but may have tearing issues (though believe you can manually enable smoothing via the driver controls).

I get just under 50fps and not getting much tearing with a similar setup
