Well you can TRY ... doesn't mean it will work, as it's NOT Guaranteed, therefore there's nothing WRONG with the card if it doesn't UNLOCK and you may be liable for RMA / Re-Stocking Fee's etc. once they find the card is in good working order and you returned it for no valid reason. Check your local laws regarding this, some areas you could be charged for the tech service for checking out the card on top of the re-stocking fee, might even be illegal to do in some areas ? so might not be worth the gamble ?

The TOXIC is Factory OC'd to near HD-6970 levels, and the UnLocked shaders would make it 99% of the way, but as  KhaoticKomputing  stated the the difference between an OC'd 6950 w/o shader UnLock and a 69(5)70 is small ... maybe about a 3% difference in performance. Even LOCKED the TOXIC is one hell of a card.

Well according to Hard ocp the 6950 toxic out of box is faster than than any out of box 6970.

graduated.gif You're taking things out of context there again KhaoticKomputing that's simply NOT True nor what they said or implied at all. The Toxic can be made faster, IF it UnLocks and IF it is OverClocked ... as for what ever reason most HD-6970's don't over-clock very well and a high quality 6950 like the TOXIC or MSI PE/OC TF3 can be pushed beyond the OC's of many 6970's and be at/near/or even slightly better than Stock non-OC'd nVidia GTX-580 cards, is what they were getting at if you read the review in full detail.

It's great that my enthusasm and zeal for the TOXIC card has rubbed off on you so much, but let's not get too carried away, while it's a Great GPU for the Money it's Not the Best Graphics card ever made nor is it the best value for the buck in all honesty, but in a single card it's hard to find one with a better combination of Quality/Performance/and Value than the TOXIC, but let's not start making things up about it to make it any better than it is. They're already hard enough to Buy as it is after all winksmiley02.gif   but I admire your efforts.  thumb.gif

Anyway, a stock out of box toxic 6950 will out perform any out of box 6970 on the market, as you start to overclock and tweak the TOXIC 6950 it gets much much better. If you want the best performance you should wait for another toxic. other 6950's/6970's just fail in comparison. Many toxics will run with a 580 GTX after proper tweaking and overclocking. I love mine to death! can't wait for a second one!

yeah i can't figure to wait on another toxic.
I just bought a TF3 unlocked from someone for $245
gonna just return this diamond one back to microcenter.

Hi everyone, I have the 6950 Toxic (Shaders unlocked).

Been having problems for 2 weeks now and still can't fix it.
Whenever the card is under load it will freeze, I can use the desktop fine for hours (watch films etc) but as soon as I play a game or any intensive 3d application the card will artifact and freeze (most commonly splitting the screen in two parts on opposite sides), it doesn't always happen right away.
Occasionally there will be a 'driver stopped responding and recovered error' but not all the time - I mostly have no option other than a hard reset.
It's not overheating - idles around 40c and load is around 65-70c. I have reinstalled windows twice, all drivers in my system are up to date - motherboard also. I Rma'd it back to the supplier and he said it worked fine on his system so I don't know what to do now. My Hd 6770 has been running great in this system with the same psu (which is recommended for the 6950 Toxic).

If anyone has any idea what could be causing my problem I would really appreciate any feedback. thumb.gif

I had a simular problem a few weeks ago. When I first bought my card of course I was testing it for the overclock settings that I can run stable at. at the same time as I was testing there was a new driver update and I had problems I couldn't get my clock over 950 and memory over 1400 when this last update 11.11 now my clock is 985 and 1420 and this isn't even my max yet I just decided to stop there for the time being what I think and remind you I'm no expert at this but with what the problems you are having is what mine did to me. try putting your clock back to stock if your overclocked and see if it works in a game if it does then do your overclock testing again and see where you can be stable if this doesn't work then revert back to your previous driver that your card was running fine with and try that. That is what I would do
