You SURE about this ? headscratch.gif the Rebate from SAPPhIRE through NEWEGG at least said valid on Purcahses between 8/16 and 9/15/2011 and must be postmarked within 30 days of your purchase ! ... BTW,  I DID receive my -$20.00 Rebate card from Sapphire ... it took awhile, but I DID GET IT.

Yeah, I realized the date, but I think the for my rebate people are pretty nice. Btw, that's why you use the no wait rebate so it dosen't take 3 years. thumb.gif

A.) As I mentioned, feel free to be apart of this thread regardless of actual TOXIC Ownership or not, as I've tried to post lots of info that should be very helpful especially to anyone with any Cool Kids with Sapphire HD-6950/70 graphics cards.

Thanks so much for your help. Is there any reason you recommend those 3 cards in particular? Are they the most likely to unlock? If you had to buy another (non toxic) card right now, would you still get a sapphire card to better the chance of unlock?

I was sad that I had to rma my reference sapphire 6950 that unlocked, but it turns out they are giving me a toxic 6950 as a replacement! I am super excited now! The card comes in on Wednesday so I will make sure to post pics biggrin.gif I will definitely be overclocking, unlocking, and benchmarking! Maybe even some crossfire benchmarks with my temporary xfx 6950. I will update with pics for sure.

Well isn't that interesting ? ... so SAPPhIRE does have some remaining stock of 6950 TOXIC cards ... at least for RMA purposes, so much for hoping you get that 7970 out of an RMA   chrisys93   tongue.gif

I might someday have to rma mine. My pc crashes when the graphics card gets over 75C in games. This might be because the nb is getting to hot thought, and the rising heat dosen't help. Hopefully if I do rma they'll give me one that they had some fun with that does like 1030 core @ 1.2 volts. biggrin.gif

CHILLY ... so Water-Cooling actually WORKS better than AIR ... WHO KNEW ? tongue.gif

Really interested to see if you can OVERCLOCK your TOXIC further on WC ... I just assume you can up the voltage and still keep it cooler than on the stock AIR Blower, so that should result in higher Overclocks, but might just be the noob assuming too much on my part ? redface.gif

Good Luck and report back Draggerlane  thumb.gif I REALLY want to see some PICS of that SwifTech Block on the TOXIC please ! smile.gif

You're welcome ...

... yeah after REFERENCE cards and the TOXIC Edition, those 3 cards have the highest reported successful unlock rates from my research on it ...

The only way to be 100% SURE you get HD-6970 performance ... is to BUY a HD-6970 Card ... PERIOD !  But, after that, you have varying levels of success rates at unlocking a HD-6950 into a HD-6970 and different cards offer different methods of doing so. The Sapphire TOXIC HD-6950 card simply offers the end user the combination of the EASIEST and MOST SUCCESSFUL chance at doing so ...

Chances of UNLOCKING Non-Referenced HD-6950's ;
90% +/-
 = OLD Original
REFERENCE cards = THE BEST w/ almost +90% chance of success, however also almost 99.9% chance CANNOT find a NEW one of these can maybe buy USED.
85% +  =
Sapphire TOXIC edition @ about 70-90% {w/ just a simple DUAL BIOS Switch flip NO NEED to FLASH, but can be FLASHED safely IF Needed}
50-66% +/-  =
MSI Power Edition/OC TwinFrozrIII @ about 50-66%+/- {w/ FLASHING only, It has a Multi-purpose Switch that's a FAN Speed option and a BIOS switch, MSI does not install the Unlocked Shaders on the Card from the Factory like the Sapphire cards}
50-66% +/-  =
Asus EAH6950 DCUII/2DI4S/2GD5 edition @ about 40-50%+/- {w/ FLASHING only, It has a Multi-purpose Switch that's a DVI/Display-Port option and a BIOS switch, Asus does not install the Unlocked Shaders on the Card from the Factory like Sapphire}
50% +/-  =
Sapphire DIRT3 edition @ about 33-50%+/- {w/ Dual Bios Switch, same as TOXIC Edition}
(
I've seen reports all over the map about the DIRT3's unlocking potential, especially now with the Antilles GPU Bios on so many of them, so? Suggest reading this disclaimer convo.)
30-50% +/-  =
PowerColor AX6950 2GBD5-P22DHG ++PCS edition & PowerColor AX6950 2GBD5-P22DH ++PCS edition @ about -30% {w/ Dual Bios Switch and/or FLASHING the card}
30-50% +/-  =
HIS 6950 IceQ X Turbo X 2GB H695QNX2G2M @ about -30% {w/ FLASHING or Dual Bios Switch ?}
0-25% +/-  = Most XFX, Diamond, VTX, VisionTek, Gigabyte and ALL Other HIS, PowerColor, MSI, ASUS, Sapphire cards NOT mentioned by Name Edition/Model# {w/ FLASHING only NO DUAL BIOS switches on ANY other cards not named above}

Disclaimer Note: Your result may vary

As for your last Question ... IF I was in the market to X-Fire right now ... hard to say what I'd match up my UNLOCKED & OVERCLOCKED TOXIC with ?

I think honestly I'd just bite the bullet and get the Sapphire DUAL FAN DUAL BIOS HD-6970.

It has 100% chance it UNLOCKS to a 6970 tongue.gif , it has the similar HIGH QUALITY PCB, chokes, vrams, capacitors, etc. that the TOXIC card uses, and isn't that much more than the MSI or ASUS high quality 6950's.

IF my budget was tighter, I'd look at the MSI Power Edition/OC TwinFrozrIII /or Asus EAH6950 DCUII/2DI4S/2GD5 edition. BOTH of these cards have similar HIGH QUALITY components to the TOXIC, can maybe UNLOCK and can OverClock like BEASTS also, so they'd make a decent match in crossfire.

The Sapphire DIRT3 edition is a great BUDGET 6950, and has a chance to UNLOCK, but the quality of it's build isn't on par to the TOXIC or others named above, and as such doesn't have as much headroom to safely and long term OC at the same levels as the TOXIC card, so personally I wouldn't mix them. Though TWO DIRT3 cards in X-Fire would be a GREAT BUDGET DUO together.

Then again ... maybe just wait and see what Sapphire has up it's sleeves for a TOXIC HD-7970 (or 7980 or whatever they're going to call it)

... as any SINGLE card solution would be better than a Crossfired/SLI'd solution ... but the budget may dictate otherwise also. tongue.gif  I'm happy with my TOXIC right now, and I'm not in any RUSH to upgrade anything right now. king.gif
