Ok now I am looking into cooling solutions. (I am all over the place tonight).

If i were to go i7, I would need a new cooler. I lost the intel mounts for this one. Is the H50 really better then a good air cooler? AHH I need to keep up with this stuff... stupid work...

I don't like the $70 for it.

@GSA That is getting a little expensive for me. Thanks though.
I understand just what you mean about having the i7 folding while using the AMD. That's why I have a 2600k on my sig rig and a 2500k on my dedicated folder. This way I can do bigadv on windows and big-bigadv on 2500k under linux.

If you plan to overclock, and I hope you do, be wary of the lowest priced 1155 boards because some of them aren't going to have the high quality VRM like the mid grade boards do.

The h50 is a good cooler, but it wouldn't beat the best air coolers. I'd say it's up there compared to most air coolers, but not all. I'd go with the H80 is you wanted to go that route. Also depends on the fans you get, like the ultra kazes are great for keeping it cool but loud as a jet engine.

So I am finding.

This is why I didn't go intel with last rebuild. They are so expensive. I can't say I didn't like my Wolfdale though, that thing was fast...

Ok so should I still be looking for 8 phase, or is 10 phase the new thing?

I think I am going to go with another rifle cooler like I have. It has served me well. My case has good airflow too, hence why I am currently running fanless. I might kill some people if I had Ultra Kaze fans running all day. I get enough of that at work.

I got my whole i7 folding rig for around 600$
2133 RAM 2X2GB - 50$
Asus Maximus IV Gene Z 140$ OB
2600K - 300$
H60 cooler 60$
I already had a PSU and HDD. You don't really need a case unless you have pets or a kid. Don't need a GPU because the MoBo is a Z68 and it overclocks to 4.8 at 1.3 volts.
I just recently bought a GPU and Case. So i am around 1200 for my whole Folding rig.

My 2600K PPD is around 81,000 and I watch VLC and surf chrome.

Well the board I linked you too has a HQ 8 phase VRM. That is the minimum IMO for any serious OC'ing. My board, the asus p8p67 pro, has 12.

Basically just make sure they are high quality VRM and have decent cooling. Some of the cheapest boards have no VRM cooling at all.

See this board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131781

It's a good board but I wouldn't put a high overclock on it due to the total lack of cooling and fewer stages of VRM.

The M4 Gene is a good mid grade board you can OC to the limit.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131759

Not a huge difference in price but look at all the features you gain with the mid grade board.

Any mid-grade board that you like will be fine.

Don't know about the "preferred" thing but if that means financing, don't do it.
