[HBG] Side-by-Side Comparison of Xbox 360 BF3 Texture Pack - Page 8

To be honest I think Microsoft may be regretting this move. In a move to make the 360 financially make sense against the high RRP of the PS3, they made some very budget SKU's like the basic model which came with no HDD.

Now these very same users are pretty much limited in regards to most future games. BF3 is only the start of things to come, game textures files are only getting bigger and bigger. I think MS will be doing some bundle deals in the future with HDD's and games like BF3 in order to pull back the crowd.

In all fairness though, a 20GB Xbox HDD costs next to nothing these days. Although for people unaware of the situation it would be very frustrating to pay such a high tag for a game just to get home and find your machine cannot utilise it to its fullest extent.

Although I'm not sure you can even add a HDD to the slim SKU's. If that's the case I think MS will have a lot of unhappy campers.
Again, USB thumb drives will work fine.

Now that you have informed him, yes he could.

I'm referring to the common man, average Joe, the guy who knows absolutely nothing about technology.

He won't know to go out and buy a USB HDD in order to achieve this. He'll just sit there, throw his joy pad at the wall and go scream at his mother.

Also, there was no mention of a 360 vs PC comparison in the article, so why is everyone assuming the PC version will look better than the 360 (plus texture pack) version?

I think everyone needs to take a step back.

The console version will be the lowest setting.

Man, that is an epic fail on the developer's behalf. The pre-textured pack looks like Unreal Engine before the textures are all drawn in; if that's the best they can do, I can see Modern Warfail 1.5 beating it in software sales on the 360, though I can't imagine that many 360 owners playing BF3 without a hard drive, since the non-HDD 360 was made to only run Kinect games, like the Wii, that need next to nothing to run. Guess it's kind of a non-issue for the most part.

I don't think the devs are to blame. They're limited by the hardware specs and disc space available.

They said they put the HD textures & co-op/multiplayer on one disc, and the SP campaign on the other. I'd rather they replace the HD textures pack for just on-disc cache of necessary HD textures on each one, split the campaign over 2 discs (with one having the vast majority of the SP campaign) and use the leftover space on one disc for the multiplayer stuff, kind of like RE4 for the Gamecube. That would still work perfectly without a hard drive.

From the videos i've seen it looks pretty good considering the hardware in the consoles.

I wouldnt be in the shoes of the coder for that one.

Aye, that does sound better.

I just hope that EA at least inform the people who don't keep up to date with game news as we do, that they're gonna need extra storage space for the texture pack. If it wasn't for me keeping informed, my brother wouldn't have known he needed a HDD/USB stick for the textures pack.

I don't see how people would want to play BF3 on a budget 360 SKU with minimal hard drive space. They will all play MW3 on the 360 instead because it has better graphics.

If that's the case and consoles are going to run it on lowest settings, I'm gonna celebrate when the game comes out. That's the best looking lowest setting game I've ever seen in my life, God knows what they're gonna do with "Ultra". My PC is probably gonna be running medium settings, which is more than good enough for me, at least for the time being.
