Please help - OC 2500k / Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (unstable)

After spending hours and hours tweaking and reading articles on this forum, I finally decided to seek some help here.

See my sig for configuration. I upgraded my desktop three weeks ago to 2500k. However no matter what i do, i just couldn’t make it stable. I kept getting BSOD 124 every once in a while.

Let me start with my goal. I want to overclock my CPU to 4.6GHz (or as high as possible) with less than 1.4v Vcore, passing 1792/1344 and passing P95 blend 8+ hrs.

First I set everything to auto and changed multi to 47x. With 1.345v Vcore i was able to run P95 small FFT for >3.5 hr. Then I tested 48x, 49x and 50x briefly and could run P95 small FFT >1hr no issues. Although I had to enable PLL Overvoltage to post anything >=48x.

Now came the stability test - the fun part. With 47x, no matter what i did, i either wasn’t able to pass 1792/1344 or failed blend at 4.5 hr or so. I tried all kinds of combination - Vcore (1.345v-1.36v) / VTT (1.05v-1.14v) / VPLL (1.5v-1.83v). By the way, memtest showed no issue 8+ hours at 47x. (I set my memory according to its spec)

Then I decided to play 46x multi first. Eventually i was able to achieve “stability” using the following settings:
multi 46x
LLC level 6
Vcore (BIOS) 1.32v (at load CPU-Z reports 1.356v)
VTT auto (1.05v default)
VCCSA 0.925v
VPLL 1.50v
V-DRAM 1.51v
It passed 15-min 1344/1792 and 8+ hours blend with 90% memory. I thought it was all set.

Within a few days, i got a couple of BSOD 124 while installing programs or photo editing. With the same settings I ran the stress test again, and now i couldn’t pass blend 8+ hours (BSOD 124 at 5 hours). Even when i changedVPLL to 1.66v (my board likes 1.5v and 1.66v PLL) and bumped Vcore to 1.335v, i couldn’t pass blend 8+ hours (1792/1344 were ok)

Now i’m on my second round to find the optimal VPLL and VTT using smaller increments. Will report back my finds again when they are done.

Some more info, except for the CPU/mobo/memory, I re-used everything else from my old core2 system. Now the instability made me suspect everything, such as my video card and PSU. However before i commit to buy new parts, i want to make sure it wasn’t my settings. I even suspected that i got a faulty chip, but stock settings proved i could run P95 blend 8+ hrs just fine.

I also read the “Solving / Fixing BSOD 124 on sandybridge.“ master thread, and did a couple of things described, to no avail.

I’m about to lose patience but i know i shouldn’t. I hope someone can help me getting the system stable.

Sorry for the long post.

I'm getting real close to buying that board to go along with my 2500k. Let us know if you get your stability!

I have that board, stable at 4.8 If I could do it again, I would go ASUS and in fact am considering getting rid of mine Giga and making a move in that direction. It's stable to a point, but it's not for pushing the edges, and I want more MOAR.
