Core i5 2500K watercooled temperatures too high?

Thread Starter
I just put this build together, it's my sig rig. I have the XSPC Rasa RS 240 radiator mounted at the top of the case with the 3 fans, two pulling and one pushing. The fans consist of the two stock fans and a cooler master. I know I probably need to get some higher CFM fans, but haven't had time or money.

At stock clocks and voltage(1.16v) my idle temps were around 31-34C, which I thought looked a little high. So I went ahead and did some overclocking to see what my delta temps were between stock/oc and idle/load for each.

Here are my idle/load temps for

Stock clock and voltage: 31-34/58-61

4.9 GHz OC @1.37v 41-44/69-71

This chip seems to OC fairly easily, however I'm somewhat surprised to see >70C temps at only 1.37v. I reseated the block and that didn't change anything. And when I took the block off, the thermal paste pattern looked good.

The screenshot below is at 4.9GHz and 1.37v at 100% load for a few minutes. Also, my ambient temps are 23-25C

Any ideas? or do these temps seem normal to you guys? Since, I'm new to this family of processors and water-cooling I wasn't sure what to expect.

Thanks in advance

i think I actually see your voltage at 1.41

Maybe not. Anyways, did you check for air in the loop?

That's another thing, sorry I need to resize the picture. Coretemp says 1.41, while it's actually set at 1.37 in the bios, Hardware monitor says 1.37-1.38. I don't know what's up with that.

I shook the case around, and turned it side to side a few times. Any other way to check for air?

1.41v is the VID.
VCore looks to be between 1.37-1.38v

This could be part of the problem. Give them a try with the two highest CFM fans in push configuration.
Air pushes through radiators more efficiently then pulls.

Unfortunately I could only fit one on the push side, my ram sticks block the area for the other one. So I could either switch the configuration with the air being blown into the case or just buy some higher flow fans.

I was thinking it could be airflow as well, maybe I should just go ahead and buy some better fans.

Those temperatures will drop in a few days after all the air has been bled out of your loop. Rock your case from side to side gradually and you'll be able to hear the bubbles being sucked through the pump and into the air space in your reservoir. Leave the reservoir top on while doing this.

As for the fans, it doesn't really matter what order they are in. Pull does produce slightly better results, but you'll be fine just going with whatever looks/fits best in your case. Personally, I have my fans pushing the air through the radiator.

Anyway, check them out in a few days and ensure all the air is out of there. You're running a slightly high voltage, so those temperatures aren't actually too bad to say it's a new loop.

I run two Deltas drawing the air into the case. Then a Scythe Kaze for a exhaust.

the fan config, willat most make 2c difference, my stock i5 can reach 50 on the same, kit, not cure if that helps, wouldn't worrie about 70c as that was how hot mine was getting on stock cooling(no OC), lol but if ur ambient temp is going to jump up a lot in summer months, it may just be worth checking ur temps,

if u want to just make sure , move ur rig around and try and gett any more bubbles out, make sure the cap is on the res when u do this, paper towel in hand, u will be fine, head over to the Rasa kit forum, if u need more help with this kit, they seem to know everything about it there
