Core i5 2500K watercooled temperatures too high? - Page 2

Thanks guys, yes I believe it's stable. I've done a couple of burn test runs, at five times each. Haven't done Prime95 overnight though.

if u want to just make sure , move ur rig around and try and gett any more bubbles out, make sure the cap is on the res when u do this, paper towel in hand, u will be fine, head over to the Rasa kit forum, if u need more help with this kit, they seem to know everything about it there

My main concern was just that I would like to OC it as high as possible... even though it's not necessary. When you spend this kind of money it's some consolation getting as much as you can out of it

George, thanks I didn't see that I guess I should have posted this there.

Hahaha btw thanks for the two reminders about making sure the cap isn't left off, I'm the kind of guy that would do that.

That's another thing I was wondering about with these processors. That number changes as I raise the multiplier, is that the board/processor suggesting 1.41 vcore for that specific clock speed?

Yah I think thats what it is. These chips don't have a VID like say a q6600 did.

Yeah, the rig this one replaced had an E6600 so I couldn't figure out why the vid wasn't static with this chip.

@lightsout, it looks like you have almost the exact same setup as me as far as cooling, voltage, and clock speed. What kind of temps do you run at idle/load?

So just so I'm clear. It sounds like these temps are not extraordinary for this watercooling system with the voltage I'm running? I thought I had seen some much lower temps with the same or higher voltage on this chip with the same system, but I could be wrong. Basically I just hate the idea of spending that much on a cooling system, and not getting the most out of it.

One more thing to add, I used Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste.

Were those temps recorded after running Prime95?
I find intensive gaming is roughly 5 degree C cooler. Also, if your gpu's are dumping their heat inside your case the rad isn't getting fed cool air. I'd be more concerned with the difference from ambient, rather than the final temp (as long as it isn't in the 80's). A 30-35C delta seems like a good setup.

That is a nice oc, btw.

They were at the end of an intel burn test run, and crysis 2 with maxed out settings got it up to 71-72 as well. I have MSI hawk 460s with the twin frozr cooler, I'm not sure how much of that air actually makes it out the back. This case does have a giant 240mm fan on the side blowing straight over the cards, again I don't know how much of that cool air makes it up to the radiator prior to being heated.

It sounds like I might benefit from switching the configuration to 2 push/1 pull flowing into the case, with some higher CFM fans. I'll probably go ahead and order some from newegg and give it a shot. I'll update after I get it set up.

Yeah, thank man looks like this chip OCs pretty well. I would love to get it over 5GHz with some reasonable temperatures. Not to say I'm not happy, but if the chip can do it I'd like to be able to cool it.

Don't worry about IBT temps, they are off the charts, totally unrealistic. I also have a 360 rad besides the 240. IBT draws more voltage for me then any other app. Most people use prime to test stability on sandy. IBT is more of a burn test.

Yes this. IBT will heat up your chip to crazy levels.
Run p95 and you will see those temps steady in the low sixties.
If you check most water cooling guides.
They will recommend you draw fresh air from outside the case through your radiator.

I guess that’s why it’s called a burn test lol, that makes sense. So really, the main purpose of IBT is to see how hot it could possibly get at the voltage and clock speed, therefore even if it’s getting pretty hot, but not say 80’s? Everything is probably okay?
Ah, I didn’t see the other rad. I see you’re getting some fairly high temps with IBT as well. I wonder if the load temps I’ve seen from other people are with prime95 or something besides this

I think I’ll go ahead and switch the configuration around and I was thinking about getting a few of these fans. You guys ever used any xigmatek fans?
