Core i5 2500K watercooled temperatures too high? - Page 3

Just wanted to share: I am new to water-cooling as well and have a newly built system (pretty new, just a couple of months old). My temps were the same as the OP and as I have read through the thread, realized I was also using Intel Burn Test. Running Prime95 now and as I am watching the temperature monitor apps, it's ranging at:

Cores (1-2-3-4): 49-50-54-48
Overall: 44

Thanks for this thread!

Thats really low, is that at stock clocks? Arre you loading all cores?

OP run prime blend and report back I'm curious what your temps will be.

If you toss a FC in a 5.5 inch bay, you could run much stronger fans.
Then turn them down when you wanted some piece and quiet.

Yeah those temps do look pretty low, I was wondering the same thing. OC? voltage?

Ok I ran Prime95 blend with Realtemp 3.67 and after about 5 minutes my max temps were 64/68/68/67, a few degrees lower than IBT. Also, worker #4 said it failed "rounded 0.5 expected < 0.4" that means instability right?

As a matter of fact I do, that's a good idea. Any suggestions? Or just highest RPM/CFM I can get?

Correct, workers failing is a sign of instability.
High static pressure is what your looking for. The thicker, 38mm fans will provide better static pressure.
The two I linked in my first post were 38mm fans.

Somehow missed that. Thanks man, unfortunately I don't think I could fit a 38mm width on either side of my rad. Would I still be better off putting some higher CFM 25mm fans on it? Or is static pressure the most important thing? Guess for now I'll drop the voltage and clock back, and get it stable. I'm glad you guys pointed that out, I thought for the most part IBT would test for stability as well.

You could consider using only two 38mm fans in push config.
Or not use pull fans at all, in other words.
I have both push and pull fans. Ended up not even using my pull fans, because the Delta fans were more then sufficient.

IBT is good stability testing software. It will strain the system temps, as well as your overclock. So is p95, you can also take a look at folding.
It is yet another way to test for stability, while helping out the team.

That's cool I didn't know I could stability test with a folding client. I just started reading about that, I'll probably look into it some more.

Here's the problem. I bought the corsair 500R partially for this watercooling setup, in hopes that I could keep it contained in the case. It has a compartment at the top that can fit 2 120 or 140 x 25 fans. So going from the bottom up I have: 1 120 x 25 fan, radiator, top of the inside of the case, then two 120 x 25's in the compartment. And the space on the inside of the case is extremely tight between the rad and the 8 pin power header placement on the motherboard on one side, and my memory on the other. And the tallest fan I can fit in the compartment is a 25mm.

So I think the only way I could get 120 x 38's on the radiator, would be with the radiator outside of the case. I see however that I can't have my cake and eat it too; i.e. full cooling system inside of the case with adequate fans for the system. So I guess my question is this, if I was going to stick with 25mm fans so I could keep the system in the case, would it even be worth it to buy higher CFM fans? or am I not really going to see much of a benefit at all without jumping to the 38mm fans.

There are high air flow 25mm fans out there.
If you are restricted to those, here are some 115 CFM 25mm thick Delta fans.

Performance cooling your radiator takes air flow. The more ambient air you can push through it the better.
If you are looking for nice temps with low noise, the fans you linked earlier would do just fine.
