Simple Overclock Help! PII X6 1090T 3.2Ghz

Thread Starter
Hey I'm new to the whole overclocking scene and I'm looking for a little push on a semi old build.

I built this PC around 3-4 years ago and just started to upgrade a few key parts, and I'm looking to get a little extra bang for my buck since I'm more of a budget builder but a hardcore gamer.

I'm not looking for a complete overhaul and I'm open to suggestions and advice even if it requires me to buy another part.

What I currently play...

World of Warcraft - Pro Gamer [Sponsored PvPer]
GTA4
Starcraft 2
Dead Island
Dues Vox

Looking forward to...

Rage
Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
Assassin creed revelations
Star wars the old republic
Diablo 3
Call of Duty: MW 3
BFBC 3

Looking to play these games on Max settings with no lag.

My current build...

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) [Current timings are 8 8 8 21 copied from newegg.com]
Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
Rosewill RP550V2-D-SL 550W ATX12V v2.01 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready
GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus [Dual 120 MM fans]

Current GPU: SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100283VX-2L Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT)

New GPU ordered: PowerColor AX6870 1GBD5-2DH Radeon HD 6870 1GB

Nothing is OC'd yet, I have done a slight OC in the past with just doing multiplier to 18x on a 955 BE but never done any voltage changes or such.

Any help is appreciated on how I can squeeze the most out of my PC without damaging or blowing up my apartment.

Forgot to add, I know nothing about OCing with my mobos bios so any help is appreciated.

Also my current CPU temp is 15-19c 30 mins of Prime95 max was 30c, this is at night, I suppose during the day with heat about 30-40c.

I'd say check out this thread:
http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/11...ing-right.html

The topic creator was a newbie at overclocking and has the EXACT same CPU as you do, and the same brand of motherboard (but a newer model).

Thank you very much, only thing is I don't know how to set the voltage on my CPU higher.

In my bios I've tried it on my 955 BE and it literally started smoking because it doesn't show it in the format of 1.4 1.5 1.6 etc.

In the bios the VCPU shows as 00.05 00.06 ETC not in that order but you get what I mean.

I tried uping the voltage on my 955 BE and it almost caught on fire, ever since the CPU was running hot but it never died.

Another question as well.

Can I just overclock using AMD Overdrive? I heard its stable from others I heard its unstable and should only be used for testing.

In AMD Overdrive I can tell the voltage correctly from the Bios.

Atm on AMD overdrive I have the current settings changed.

x19.5 Multiplier [3.9Ghz]
1.45 Voltage

on a Cool master 212 my under load temp was 35c after 10 minutes.

Any advice? I wouldn't know how to change voltage is my only issue in bios, I can change the multiplier fine.

AOD should not be used for OC'ing that tool is good for testing the OC and then putting the same in the BIOS.

Thanks I figured, I reverted the settings to default.

I'll wait a while to get some advice on how to find the correct voltage and I'll test the 19.5x setup with multiplier / voltage

get cpu-z it will show you the volts.

Ok so I got everything but I'm having a slight problem. + rep btw for the help.

I put the mulitplier to x19.5 in bios set vcore to 1.5

but when I load windows and open up cpu z it shows 1.45 vcore & 3.2 ghz

rebooting as we speak with amd od uninstalled to see if any difference.
Does your motherboard have any llc settings? Using those might help with the vcore issue.
