quick question about ASROCK P67 extreme 4 Gen3 mobo

hi,

i was wondering if i could plug in a molex to PCI-e adapter to the molex plug in the motherboard for one of my gpu's. i always wondered if i could since its just there and it would help me manage stuff in my FT02 case.

my psu is corsair GS700W if that makes any difference

No. That is designed to provide extra power to the PCI-E lanes (usually more useful when running multi-GPU setups, but plugging it in with one doesn't hurt) from the power supply. It does not output power, it can only take it to give to the PCI-E lanes.

EDIT: ^ he beat me to it lol
Isn't that header to add power to the lanes? not to provide power.
basically its a Input for additional power to the board(for multi gpu setups). IIRC

I'm pretty sure when motherboards have molex plugs, they are INPUTS meant for extra power for multi-gpu which draws 75W from mobo per card (otherwise 24 pin has too much current).

ok,

so i didnt quite understand what you guys meant ( its to plug in power to the mobo just in case it needs more power? does that ever happen?) but i think i understood that no, i should not do it and just plug the molex to PCIe adapter to my psu and hook it up that way to my gpu.

thanks everyone =]

The PCIe Lanes/slots want/need more power if multiple cards cards are installed.
think of it like a 4/8pin cpu power cable, but for gpu lanes instead.

If you have a Very power hungry single card, like a 590 or a 6990, you will definitely want to use that. If you had say 1 6950 at stock clocks you probably shouldn't worry about it, I don't.

EDIT: your sig rig says 2 6870s so yes it might be a good Idea to plug that in.
