FX 8150 at FAH - pitiful performance - Page 7

I wonder if F@H could be optimized for the new instruction sets. Preliminary benchmarks showed a near ridiculous amount of computing power when the new instruction sets were thrown in the mix.

Likely could, likely won't be done though.

Most of the time you have somewhat legit arguments, but this is just blatant lying .

geesh how many people in OCN have let AMD maketing take over their brain?
the 81xx series chips are not 8 cores they are 4 core 8 thread chips
61xx chips are 3 core 6 thread chips
41xx chips are 2 core 4 thread chips

everybody that calls this an 8 core chip needs to go ask the engineers that designed it.
the engineers call it a 4 core chip.
have we fallen so low that the marketing of a chip throws reality out the window?
you would think that the intelligence lvl of technology would be able to over come the marketing of any product released.
by the way this is all starting to look more and more like the athlon 64 x2 fiasco , when the patches hit it, they exploded and everyone was all over them like white on rice.

F@H won't be ever optimized for the new instruction sets....

It uses the Intel Compiler which doesn't have XOP or FMA yet

You do know that Intel never fixed the code dispatch mechanism in the compiler right ?? So if they aren't actively optimizing the binarys for BD and other AMD cpu's its going to use less powerful instructions on non intel hardware.

What about AMD support?

We are currently using the Intel Fortran compiler and libraries. This software intentially runs slowly on AMD CPUs (SSE2 is not supported). While there have been hacks around this issue, such modifications violate Intel's EULA. At FAH, we follow software EULAs and are thus bound to this limitation imposed by Intel.

Hah,they even tell you it slows down folding when ran on a AMD processor based system.

a admission on the website of the developer of F@H stating that the Intel Fortran compiler knowingly produces bad results on AMD cpu's for the reason mentioned about CPU code dispatch is a defense of AMD ? F@H doesn't recommend using AMD cpu's because they know its a problem.

If the OP can get the person who did the benchmarks to read this blog, there is a russian fellow who made a hack for spoofing the cpuid of AMD CPU's to Intel cpu's.

I'd be curious to see the results if he would so oblige.

End this plz bulldozer not really the best built chip it happens we live with it or move on. So should every one who is complain over it. I mean realy its like trying to argue Darwin's theory of evolution to a group of hard core Christians they are never going to buy it. Just because it has more cores doesn't mean it is better "but the number is bigger so it better right" no i have seen small block Chevy's beat 502 monsters. give it time and it might get better, let them work on it a bit more and it might be able to compete as of now........... Do I really have to say it or is the picture clear enough for you. Yes i do use AMD cause it is cheap remember you get what you pay for. "But i payed $250 for it." Yeah true but its still cheap. yes I know I am going to get flamed.
