Motherboard Question

Thread Starter
Hello guys,
as you can see, I'm new here and i plan to build a new Computer in December with an i5 2500K as CPU, but now I'm confused about the motherboard, found 2 MoBo's which i think they would fit, but which one would be better for overclocking the i5? Also is the Arctic Freezer 13 Pro CO as a Fan enough (with Arctic Silver 5) but i also think of changing to Antec Kühler H20 620, what do you guys recommend?

Main thing i want to do with the computer: gaming
ofc. i also get a new GPU and 8GB of DDR3-1333 memory

Motherboards:
either
GIGABYTE GA-P67A-D3-B3

or
GIGABYTE GA-P67-DS3-B3

or do you guys have any other suggestion (in that price range ofc.)?

EDIT: kept getting linked to the wrong board for some reason - my bad! I can't spot any really important differences. As for their overclocking potential, I'd say they're probably identical since they share the same chipset.

Hmm, what about the cooling question i posted?

also is it good for overclocking in general? the P67 chipset?
And i've got told that the GA-P67-DS3-B3 wouldn't recognize USB-Keyboards in BIOS if there are other USB devices connected, but couldn't find anything about it @ google :-S

Neither of those boards are very good actually... definitely bottom range for Gigabyte.

When looking at their boards look for ones that have "UD" in the name, which stands for Ultra Durable. Can't skimp on quality.

As for your cooler, yes it will work but you can do better for the money. The CoolerMaster Hyper212+ is basically the same thing but 1/2 the price.

For your RAM, you should consider going with DDR3-1600. It is the current sweet spot on price/performance right now.

hmm, the thing is I have to look at the Money :-S tbh i don't really care about the mobo's Brand, as long as i can overclock with it and it isn't the worst quality and would be awesome if it had SLI support for later. Also with the RAM many mainboards i checked only supported 1333, but if you can show me one for a decent price (best would be similar to the 2 mobo's I posted) which supports DDR3-1600 I'd definately go for this :-)

If you are building it in December don't bother with Sandybridge, as Ivy Bridge is coming out in Q1 2012 so you'd be better off waiting.

But if you're set on SB, those motherboards are okay, but not great.

Go for any of the following..

Asus P8P67 Deluxe (EFI BIOS makes OC'ing easy on this)
Asus P8P67 Pro
Gigabyte P67 UD4
MSI P67 GD65
Asus P67 Sabertooth

These aren't cheap, most are around $150 - $220, but worth it. For overclocking, I'd recommend the P8P67 Deluxe, plus that too for features.

Best ram, Corsair Vengeance/GSkill Ripjaws. But no need to go above 1600Mhz for gaming.

For cooling, don't bother with Antec. It performs worse than a H80. Get a Corsair H80 or H100 if you can fit a 240 rad. Or if you can handle it, get a Rasa XS240 cooling loop.

okay, maybe i should mention that the maximum of money i can spend is about 450€-500€? :-D since it's all that great stuff you advice here, but i can't afford, I know that i won't get the best hardware for this price, but i need a new GPU, CPU, RAM and mobo and also i don't want to overclock to the limits (don't want to get it >4.5, probably only to about 4) also waiting for ivy isn't that easy, since i want to play e.g. BF3, which simply won't be possible on my current setup and i don't want to wait till feb/march 2012

Edit: thought about this mobo now: GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3

The only difference between those two Motherboards is that the P67A-D3-B3 has 2 USB 3.0 Ports.

The P67-DS3-B3 only has 4 USB 2.0 Ports. I'm getting this board in the Summer - Can't Wait!!!!!
