Undervolting FX8120 and Overclock

Thread Starter
I have been playing with this CPU for about 36 hours now. Below are my overclocking results with under volting.

4.265Ghz@ 1.26Volts With all power saving and turbo disabled. This is not a voltage throttling number and is the true value.

This is Prime95 Stable after several hours. The same PC has been taken further since this screenshot was taken. I have not finished a full Prime 95 run on my new clocks so they do not get posted yet.

As you can see my temps are quite manageable except my V-Core1 which is my power distrobution sensor in the mainboard, and the memory bandwidth is outstanding for the speeds I am running per AMD standards. The kit installed is a 6/8/6/24@1600 Kit. I have some more timing tweaks to do but felt like posting this was worth it.

I am currently at 4.5Ghz testing stability @1.28V... Having serious issues beyond this point without upping the voltage and heat.

That is just the value they slap in there. I haven't tested what my draw is yet. When the chance comes I will.

Once I get my baffle built to help cool my main boards heat sinks I will be able to push this chip to 5Ghz with ease if it doesnt just cap out before then. With work this CPU is really nice. I think the problem is everyone is trying to brute force them to the max OC and its causing a lot more power draw and heat than needed. They take some TLC to clock nicely at lower voltages. Lots of trial and error to get where I am at right now.

You say this CPU is nice , how is the performance / power usage ?

You getting any trouble like BSOD ?

Performance is great so far. Its beating my 4Ghz Thuban in nearly everything except Super Pi, which doesn't matter and is outdated and pointless anyhow.

I suspect the power usage cannot be much more than stock as I am beneath stock voltages and have basically just increased my speed from there. Being as there is not a major change in its thermal readings it would make sense its not drawing ungodly amounts of juice.

Also, no BSODs. Thats an extremely isolated issue and as far as I have seen only been reported by 4 people, 1 of which from this forum. This does not mean there are no more just thats all I have seen.

That's great but there reviews saying it is slower than the Thuban, I am looking at purchasing the FX in Jan 2012.

Do you play any games ? I actually want to see the FX performance in FSX as it is one of the most CPU intensive games. Do you have FSX ?

I know this is a bit of an older thread, but do you mind sharing some of your other settings for your 4.265ghz @1.26v - such as NB frequencies, hypertransport, etc.

Thanks!
