Any decent Chinese tablets?

Thread Starter
My wife has expressed interest in getting a tablet for Christmas. She doesn't want anything expensive or crazy. She checks facebook and cooking websites. I was trolling eBay and saw several units that are around $125-$175 and offer 1Ghz processor with 512Mb RAM. Are these and decent? I'm not looking for a PC replacement, just something she can sit on the couch with and check her crap.

Thoughts?

Hmm maybe something like this http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/8-inch-tablet-pc-android/

Amazon reviews here

.

Or This quite well specced http://www.millennius.com.au/p137-Mi...-7-Android-Tab

I dont have one of those but price seems good for a capacitive screen model although at nearly $200 id wait for a known brand on special.

Biggest problem with the chinese clone type tablets is the battery life usually is very poor 2-3 hours when using wifi etc and build quality is questionable but they do have loads of input/output options " microSD for increased storage usb slot mini hdmi out , ethernet connector etc " .

I have 2 chinese tablets a 10 inch and a 7 inch and while im quite happy with them i dont think id recomend either of them , unless your within 20 feet of the router they seem to lose sync very easily and drop out .

Id wait for the christmas specials or search ebay or Ozbargain " http://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/tablet+pc " previous deals " for a cheaper know brand one .

Also look for reviews on the tablet your interested in on youtube .

Things to keep in mind.

:Capacitve screens use your bodys electrical field and are very responsive to touch , Resistive screens use multilayered technology " top layer pressing on bottom layer " less responsive imo which are fine if you use a stylus

:Not ideal for reading outdoors " lcd screens "

:weight lighter is better

:Size , i feel my 7 inch tablet a little small and my 10 inch tablet a little large lol so maybe something inbetween imo 8-9 inch

:Tons of free apps for Android

Ps. I have used freinds apple ipad 1 and 2 and they are great " but freakin expensive " and they both said they liked them but the apps they wanted were pricey and they would have liked more input/outputs

And the one thing i love about my cheap chinese tablet " $80 " i dont care if i stuff it up with rom upgrades as i love fidling with new gadjets etc and its a handy introduction " for me " into the android world .

Now bring on a dual boot windows 8 / Android Ics tablet and id be an extremely happy chappy ;-)

The Viewsonic G Tablet can be had cheaply. Only Con is bad fiewing angles but I can pretty much guarantee you that it's better than a single core chinese tablet as it has Tegra 2. Also, there is a nice amount of roms out for it.

Late reply to this thread but I'm in the same boat. I want to buy a cheap tab for work, as I have a habit of losing notes which make my life pretty hard. I bought a Nook Touch but I'm afraid of using it due to the extreme amount of dust in the air here and the Nook working on IR sensors and not the traditional touch screens.

I've looked at a lot of slate devices and think the ZT 280 is the best for the price. Nook Colour and the Kindle Fire are both quite a bit more expensive for me and I have no intentions of getting the Kindle as it has no SD card slot. Also Zenithink provide support for the C91 version of the 280, as they've released several firmware updates already.

Here are the specs of the device. I don't know whether this is true as the Mali 400 is a damned good GPU and would be spectacular.

I'm worried that there's something wrong with the ZT280 as you get a lot for the price, I suspect the screen isn't fantastic and the RAM could be slow. I'm going to do some research into them and then post back.

Here are some Youtube links for you just in case you haven't seen them yet.
