Looking for the best 2.1 speakers (around 100-180$ max)

Thread Starter
im looking for a 2.1 or maybe even 5.1 set if the price is ok, i don't mind getting a used ones as well (ebay)

Ive heard alot of good things about Klipsch promedia 2.1 or whatever they are called, i never understand the name lol so don't get hard on me please hehe, but i also heard they woofer/amp on them getting really hot, any solution for this? or i got to live with it?

Maybe there are any other 2.1 speakers which could be equal quallity to the promedia 2.1 and yet similar price, or maybe even better deal?

Im mostly interested in music, games and movies....i like clear, deep, detailed and crisp sound, and to be able to hear every single sound more then bass and agressive sound, i hope i can explain it well, bare in mind in new into audio stuff and such.

I plain to use the speakers with (another dilema) Xonar STX or HD Titanium pro, i'm leaning towards the HD because of the price which is like 130$ including shipping for HD, and 230$ for the STX, i heard this cards are close in terms of SQ, and would love to here any input about this 2 cards what would be the best option for me.

Now, one thing is really important to me, lets say i get 5.1 set, and i want to listen to some FLAC music/stereo, is it possible to make 5.1 speakers to play 5.1 but from 2 channels? ( i like all of my speakers to play instead of having only 2.1 but yet in stereo mode) would the sound quallity be worse then classic 2.1 speakers if this is possible, and how much? would it be noticable?

Another thing to point, i would be using this spekaers in small room, so keep that in mind regarding my best option. Now before i asked about 5.1 > in stereo mode, 6 speakers 2 channels, but is it possible to get the same with some emulation with some of the sound cards? 2.1> emulation = 5.1...i would love to use such a mode for games and movies if thats possible if i decide to get 2.1 speakers.

Also if i let say use my headphones with my future sound card, Essence STX/HD Titanium, would i lose SQ if i use the front panel connection instead of directly connecting the headphones into the sound card?

Oh and one more thing, (FLAC/WAW) 24 vs 44 vs 92Khz does it matter in case you got decent speakers/sound card/headpones or still no difference?

Thanks.

Well I don't know everything but it's generally regarded that the STX is better with actual sound quality but the HD is better for gaming because it does better with 5.1/7.1 sound positioning so if you're looking at movies and FLAC music, I'd say go for any of the Asus cards.

As for the front panel connector, the Xonar STX has a front panel connector on it so that would go directly to the card so you won't lose sound quality with headphones from the front panel. You could also use the rear connector directly on the card because it does have a headphone amp.

For the FLAC quality, once you get into that quality range, it's very hard to tell the difference for many people. Having a good sound card/speakers/headphones will make a difference but the improvement is a personal thing. If you try 24/44/92Khz with your current setup and can't notice a difference, don't expect a huge change between them with better equipment. If you CAN notice a difference with lower end equipment, that gap will only widen with better equipment.

I can't recommend speakers directly because I don't have enough experience with many of them but if you want quality for that price, I can recommend you look at 2.1 speakers. Going for 5.1 speakers won't sound near as good since you're spreading that money over more speakers and less science is put into splitting the sound correctly to give you a decent surround feel.

I would love to here some more opinions about the 2.1 sets if anyone can help, or even got promedia 2.1 FS and offering international shipping.

Where do you live?
I see that you priced the STX at $230, that's not the price I'm used to so I'm assuming you don't live in the US?

EDIT: ok just saw that you're from macedonia. Not familiar with pricing there but right now the Xonar is $174 on amazon and I got mine recently on sale for $155 so if anyone can help you with a site that does international shipping, it may be worth it to get the Xonar. If budget is a big issue, it does seem like the HD would work better for you since the price difference is so great there.

Get the Klipsch Promedia 2.1. I've had mine for years and love them.

Yes, the price for the STX is from Ebay including shipping, im from EU, and where i live you cant find Xonar STX, so im left with Ebay orders.

BTW i just saw some suggestions about Audioengine A2, are they really better then Promedia 2.1?

Does amazon.co.uk ship to macedonia? I'm just shooting in the dark here but I would assume shipping would be cheaper since they're closer to you?
