Best free firewall?

Thread Starter
I've currently got Avast and Malware Anti-bytes installed, but what's a very good free firewall?

If you have to have one, I'd just install Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free and it's not bothersome. Or you can just grab Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and scan periodically or after you think you've download/installed something retarded.

Windows Firewall is fine.

Keep in mind if you are using a router you also have the security benefit of NAT and a stateful packet inspection firewall on the router itself for WAN traffic.

Windows firewall doesn't notify about outbound connections without playing around with it.

I like MSE. But personally I use AVG anti virus. I have had no problems and I barely even notice its running. I've had it for the last year and I haven't gotten a single virus at all.

Go hardware or go home.

If you use Windows use the built in one. Otherwise make a box with DD-WRT/pfsense or m0n0wall.

Sofware firewalls are like putting the condom on after sex.
