The card came with a 2 molex to 8 pin adapter. That should be fine?
Definitely!

If there's any question, I can just buy another PSU. I just wanted to be safe. It's not worth killing hardware to be on the cheap.
Oh yeah, it'll be safe for sure.

For this? Why? It's for his office PC. As he said, it will only be doing 2D.

Maybe I should just be safe. I see someone on another forum selling a good brand of PSU that's 750w.

Probably worth the upgrade cost to be safe.

But the card will only be doing 2D. It will practically be idling. Even a decent 400W PSU would be enough for this.

I just don't want to let someone cause you to spend money when you don't have to.

I have a spare 1200w PSU (I know uber overkiller) and I'll be using that till I can find a nice used PSU on a forum.

If I ever decide to do anything with this rig, even using it as a baseline w/ 3Dmark, I'd blow out components... I think I'll play it safe.

Thanks for the help guys!

Why do people continue to do this? Suggesting a PSU that is extreme overkill for a system?

OP, your rig, loaded (assuming the graphics card is at load as well), will pull max 420w from its PSU. So a 500w will still be plenty. But since the gpu will never go into long-duration 3d mode, I would say that the rig will probably never even pull 300w at any given time.

Check out the PSU calculator here to enter your system specifics and calculate: http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine

It's still a best approximation and not necessarily exactly accurate to real-life, but it's pretty close.

Don't worry, your 500w earthwatts will be fine.

I agree with others, this is definitely overkill.

This PSU would just harmlessly turn off if it were overloaded. I mean, the Earthwatts is no slouch.
