Can this mobo unlock AMD phenom2 cores?

Thread Starter
I have GIGABYTE GA-MA78LMT-S2 rev3.4 and Phenom 2 x2 555 Black Edition...

1)Can this mobo unlock amd be cores?
2)Is there sb700 or sb710 south bridge on this mobo?
3)If my 4. core is not working then what is the way of opening 3.rd core alone and use my x2 as x3?

1: Yes it can, but no you shouldn't.
2: SB710
3: The unlocker function will allow you to turn off cores when set correctly.

And I'd not overclock it as anything over a dual core on that board. 3+1 phase VRMs with no cooling? Um... nope.

The specification of the mobo suggests that it can unlock core but it also depends on the chip you are using,if the disabled chip of your cpu are very bad then it won't unlock.

I cannot boot the system when i choose acc as "auto" so it seem my 4th core is bad... There are core values between -20 and +20...Can i unlock 3.rd core alone by changing these values? (all cores are -2 now)

There is a "per core" setting in bios but i don't know how to do it :/ should i decrease the value for my bad 4th core to -20 and 3rd core to +10 or +12 or something like that?

Yah you can give it a try like that or you can decrease the clock speed(underclocking) of your cpu & try to unlock the third core,
don't forget to raise the voltage a bit.
1.5v at max.
Hope this helps.

DON'T DO IT
The limited 3+1 phase VRM on this board is EXTREMELY failure prone
post #10 of 22
First post here. Unlocked my 555 with a ga 880gmd2h and after being all happy go lucky, read on these forums about the 3+1 power phase. Locked it back to 3 but even that is risky. I read that temp 2 on hwmonitor might just be those vrm's, and I can vouch for it reading just about 100 c with 4 cores going. Could be NB temp but I doubt it. Just hope it's worth the risk til I can get a better board.
