Which trade should I go for? 2 6970s or 2 470s - Page 2

I wasn't aware 470s don't scale well past 2xSLI. I think I'll be going with the trade for the 6970s since he has a good trader rating, and has done trades before. He wants me to send my Hawk + SSD and he'll send one card, then we do the rest later. That's his stipulation or else...

BF3 is what I'm aiming at here. And since I have 3 1080p monitors I'd like to do eyefinity since with the 3 monitors in surround with these 560s I can't even run BF BC2 maxed out at 1080p with any AA past 2x if I want to be at my best skillwise.

Hmm, he's anxious to get an answer since he has other offers floating around, so I figured I'd ask in the thread what the performance comparison would be.

So If I did get the 470s and OC'd them to 840, do you all think they would be comparable to 2 6970s in BF3? Did anyone use 2 or 3 470s with the BF3 beta? How did it do?
I know 3 6970s will beat 2 470s, and probably 3 since they dont scale AS well, but it'd be rather close with them OC'd to hell and back, lol.

Thanks guys!

+rep to those who gave advice
I wasn't aware that you were working with three monitors. This is more than likely going to be a problem with 470's. In this case I'd suggest the 3 6970's. You should get very good performance even on the three monitors.

As far as overclocking the 470's goes. You can over clock the 6970's as well, probably even to the same extent, and they'll still run cooler most likely. I'll contest to the fact that my 470's can heat my room up rather quickly XD.

Now tell me how to get a job reviewing hard ware so I can get some engineering samples as well .

The 6970's are strong cards and if you liked them when you ran it in tri-fire see what else you can do. The rest of your hardware can run either options no problem.

And now with the 470's, hmm this is a toss up are the 470's from the same person that want the SSDs? I would go the 470 route if they can overclock well, but if the 560's overclock well too why not keep those?
I am kinda partial to nVidia though so if I was in your shoes I would SLI the 470's put them on water and milk them till kepler.

Good luck and do what will make you happy in the long run.

Yeah the 470 trade is just for the 2 560s. His cards have confirmed to have OC'd to 840mhz each. The only reason I'd prefer to go 6970s, is that I know that my PSU can handle Tri Fire 6970s, but I know that my PSU CAN'T handle Tri-SLI 470s, as many people recommend a 1kw PSU. Perhaps I COULD pull it off, but I doub't I'd be able to OC them much without smelling the PSU burning after a while rofl.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Rofl, guy flaked out at the last minute after I agreed to his stipulations and replied to him within 15 mins of every msg...

If it's one thing that irritates me, it's someone that makes 100 stipulations for a deal, and you agree to them, and then they back out after wasting your time.

Anyways, if anyone is willing to trade 2 6970s for my 2 560 TIs and M4 128GB SSD, hit me up, I'd be happy to oblige

I'd also take a 6990, GTX590, 2 570s, or 2 6950s flashed to a 6970 for the 2 560s + SSD

ALSO, I'd take a 580 for JUST the 560s..

Best Regards
