Weird problem with crossfire

Thread Starter
So...my rig is not the best combo at all when it comes to crossfire.

My mobo is 1xPCI-E at x16 and 1xPCI-E x16 at x4. My CPU is bottlenecking my 5870(not with crossfire).

Anywho, i assume part of the problem may be the x4 slot, but i will ask just in case.

So i started Crysis 2 without the crossfire and sat there on one spot and got 22FPS with my 5870(ultra, dx9). I enabled crossfire and sure enough i got at least 13fps more as it was 35 on the same spot.

HOWEVER!!

Even though fraps was saying i was getting 35fps, it sure felt sluggish, with my 5870 alone it is smooth, but in crossfire its sluggish..fraps said i was getting in one scene 50fps, it felt like 20 or less when moving around compared with no crossfire.

GPU Usage on the 5850 was 99% where the 5870 was 76 tops. Oh and the 5870 is my main card in the x16 slot.

I am using the 11.6 drivers and Patch 1.9 of Crysis 2(no flickering in crossfire at all)

If you are an AMD user then i assume you know that it's a pain in the a** to install AMD drivers, cause you not only have to deinstall the previous, but you also must use Driver Sweeper/or Driver Cleaner to remove the traces, then manually delete any associated registry...

In any case, i installed the Application profiles for 11.6 which apparently included Crysis 2, but i saw no change in the sluggishness. I did not reboot since the installer did not ask me to.

Enabling V-SYnc kinda fixed this, but i still wish to know why the 5850 gets 99% usage where my 5870 gets only 76 tops

Well it seems in crossfire with those cards you should be getting 85ish FPS @ 1080p.
What was the CPU usage with the 5870? Do you have ULPS disabled in registry? Were those GPU usage numbers with or without vsync?

Well, at the time of writing the thread i did not know at all about ULPS, but i've disabled it, though i haven't yet rebooted.

Also, CPU usage or GPU usage? If it's GPU usage, the 5870 was at 76% tops, the 5850 at 99%

And no, in Crysis 2 on All ultra(dx9) i get 22fps with the 5870 and 35fps or a bit more in crossfire.
