Why won't my amp 'See' rigs digital audio?

I have my XBOX 360 and rig beside my amp. My amp is nothing special but it does detect digital 5.1 surround when my XBOX 360 is connected Via Optical cable. So why is it when I hook up my rig to my amp it does not detect digital source??
I am very frustrated as my amp is defaulting to dolby pro surround instead of digital surround via optical also.
My amp also has a setting called 6 speaker and i am unable to get any audio when this is turned on.
I am mad because my Rig sounds no where as good as my xbox 360 when on. And i really am trying to get all these little bugs fixed before battlefield 3 drops in a few days. I need my 5.1 digital surround to work. Does anyone have a thought.
BTW, When I open my rigs sound app it shows that it is producing audio through a optical out, So it should be noticed on my Amp.

It's possible your onboard sound doesn't support DDL (DolbyDigitalLive). It's hard to tell without owning it aswell - the same codec on different makes/models of mobo can have it enabled or not.

From the spec's it looks like it may support DTS-Connect instead - does your reciever support that?

Either way you'll need to select DTS-Connect or DDL as the output format somewhere in the Realtek HD Audio panel or in the advanced properties of windows sound.
