Absurd Vcore for stable 4.6 GHZ

Thread Starter
I recently purchased an overclocked bundle from SCAN, which was/is running at 4.6 ghz, which was all fine and dandy- until I checked the vcore it was running at... Supposedly, my chip needs up to 1.48-1.5 vcore to run 4.6 ghz stable?
Now, I've spent the majority of the past week, trying to get 4.6 ghz stable, with lower voltages, but to no avail... Do I have a bad chip? OR am I failing somewhere?
At the moment, it's running at 1.39 (idle) to 1.45 (load) on the vcore...
Oh and the processor is a 2600K and my motherboard is a Z68 UD4 B3 Gigabyte

Regards,

CA

Some chips just aren't good overclockers...but 1.48v sounds absurd for 4.6 ghz

No, couldn't get 4.6 at automatic settings- and even worse, the people who 'overclocked' it to 4.6 in the first place had a horrendous vcore of 1.48-1.51... with load line level 10 :/- or so they say

A good 2600k would be at close to 5GHz at 1.5v. However, not every chip oc's easily.
Mine seemed to need too much vcore to get beyond 4.5 GHz, so I called it done.

Prebuilts are always getting dinged for lazy overclocking.

I'd start from scratch. There is a "stable sandy" club here you could check out peoples mobo, OC and voltage values and use that as a starting point.

Yeah that's crazy high. though it does kinda sound normal.......I've seen more than a few places that sell pre-builds, pick and choose what chips they put in a system and what they sell as "higher binned" for more. I hope you're able to get those under control, good luck.

I feel like rage quitting, starting from stock now... only setting the multiplier (x45)- crashes before prime even gets a chance to start... Back later.

Some chips really do suck. I require 1.44vCore to hit 4.8ghz stable on this 2600k, others easily get the same at less than 1.4v. Luck of the draw..
