Finished Build. Temps normal?

Thread Starter
Well Ive searched and searched... and some temps others speak of Im not sure if they are exaggerating or what.

So I decided to stop by and get some input from the pros. This is my FIRST water build BTW.

800D case (Intake through bottom then exhaust through rear and top with rads)
I7 2600k @ 4.7 VCore 1.392 + SLI GTX580 3gig in loop.

(All fans are Gently Typhoons)
Black Ice GTX Xtreme Gen Two 360 push/pull inside top of case mounted.
Black Ice GTX Xtreme Gen Two 120 push/pull inside rear of case mounted.

Koolance CPU370 + Both Vid cards are Hydro Copper 2

Im using the XSPC dual bay res with the MCP 655 Pump (with speed control and at lvl 5)

Loop:
Res/Pump>>360>>CPU>>120>>GPU's>>Res

Ambient Temps: Usually anywhere from 25 - 30 C sometimes a bit higher.

Ran every benchmark and played just about every game thats demanding. My SLI 580s have yet to break 50C on me. So that looks great to me considering I have them both at 900core 2100mem @ 1.1 volts.

Prime 95 is still running at the moment. Its been 1 Hr and 15 mins and my temps are:

57 61 59 58 Max Core so far was 63. (ambient 25 at this time)

I thought they were good. However this being my first I7 and my first water build I started researching others temps and found people claiming better temps on air.

So immediately Im going to doubt my work because Im a noob at water cooling. I applied my AS thermal paste via the spread method (which Ive been doing for years), I then recently found out that the optimal method for 2nd gen I7 is actually the line method.... not sure if that *could be the culprit.

Anyway, I'd really hate to have to drain, reseat, bleed etc (the res was a pain to bleed! I had to cut a piece of tubing in half and seat it in the res in between the inlets to catch bubbles. Otherwise they just keep flowing right back in the system with the way the res inlet is shaped.)

Not to mention I don't want to miss a minute of BF3 on the 25th! (Still hoping I can handle the 3 monitors on at least high)

Were those other people reporting temps with cpu and gpu on the same loop? that might be the reason that you are getting higher temps. and the gtx 580 is a warm card especially in SLI. I would recommend doing the CPU and GPU on separate loops. with one 240mm rad on the cpu and that 360mm for the GPU plus the 120mm rad in-between GPU blocks.

Temps seem fine, are you running your cards in serial or parallel ?

Yes there were a couple posts/stories I came across referencing a single loop. And to be honest I thought of a dual loop but I did not want to overwhelm myself on my first time 'learning' loop.

Another issue was my 2 1/2 yr old son likes to grab / pull at EVERYTHING! For this reason I needed something completely internal. I wouldnt even know how to fit those 3 rads in the case w/o modding. I appreciate your input and I will take it into consideration on my next build, or on an upgrade.

How long as the system been up and running ? You could still have some air trapped in the loop, give your rig a few nudges.

A week and a half. It took me a couple days to bleed it. Ill give it a try (been doing it and I cant hear a sound from the rads. Loop is pretty quiet) Temps are now @ 55 63 61 60. That one low 55 makes me think I should reseat with the line method. But like I said in no mood to drain / rebleed.

Sometimes a bit of heat can dislodge the odd bubble which may have helped things out a bit. Just running your loop doesn't always get all the air out, I have had some trapped in a rad for 3 weeks before now (only noticed it as I moved my case).

60°C for 4.7GHz is good. Some people get better chips which can OC higher with lower voltage, this might be where the stories are coming from.

The nice thing about WC is that you can boost your vCore / OC with a smaller increase in temperature compared to air cooling.
