HT receivers and Headphones

Thread Starter
I have an HD 555 and I'm looking at getting an AV reciever like the Onkyo TX-NR609 and the energy 5.1 classic home Theater 5.1 speakers.

I was wondering though since the receiver has a heapdhone out, how do those compare as opposed to connecting the headphones directly to my TiHD soundcard. Do A/V recievers do an adequate job of driving headphones? granted HD 555 are not top of the line

receiver will be doing the processing they'll be fine driven from it, you can also try listening to the headphones on both and see what sounds better to you if you even notice a difference.

AVRs usually have a good headphone output. The HD555 aren't the most demanding but will benefit slightly from good amplification. As mrsmiles says, try both and decided for yourself Headphone outputs differ from AVR to AVR and soundcard to soundcard.
