Looking for a good 23/24 IPS

Thread Starter
Hi,

Looking for a reasonably priced 23/24 IPS display in the UK.

ASUS PA238Q
10-bit panel, dE less than 5. Heard great things about this in a few not-so-professional reviews, couldn't find a good review (Prad.de reviewed it and gave it a "very good" but it's currently not available for free). Factory calibrated. £220

ASUS PA246Q
seems to be the bigger version of that, but for £440. Anyone know the difference?

Dell U2410
Great thing we all know about this. but £420

Dell U2412M
Cheaper than U2410, no 1:1 mapping or HDMI, lacks a lot of features. £250

Dell U2312HM
Read good reviews but not sure about this, same price as PA238Q. £220

HP ZR24w
Seems to be fine, a bit more expensive. £320

Any ideas or recommendations? Not gonna be used for gaming but should be fast enough for all sort of movies. 16:10 or 16:9 doesnt matter, 24" is preferable. no 3D but 120Hz is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I have the U2312HM, and it's amazing.

Granted, it's the first non Samsung monitor I have, and I'm enjoying mine so far.

If you need HDMI, get the PA238Q. I don't think anyone's really bought/tested that particular monitor, it'd be great to have some variety.

As far as the U2312HM goes, I vouch for it. Its only drawback probably is that smidgen of backlight bleeding on the corners.

I don't really notice that with gaming, and it practically disappears when I recline to watch a movie, so what the hey.

Take a look at DELL U2311H as well. It is said to have better color reproduction than HM version (it has cathodes instead of LED's for back light) and should be slightly cheaper.

As you can see I do have U2311H's and I would say the "ghosting" is not a problem with them (Team Fortress 2, Unreal 3, Half Life 2 is the fps games I play from time to time). Well it's ofc somewhat personal as it might be possible that I'm just not that sensitive to it. I run my monitors in "standard" mode (I like the way I have them configured and "game mode" puts colors a bit off), if ghosting is problem you could setting them into a "game" operating mode - which should increase the overdrive a bit to make response times faster.

That out of the way if you are specifically looking for ghosting you can find it in any LCD monitor. Even relatively fast TN screens claiming "2 ms" response times (which is ofc in reality a marketing hype but they do have faster response than IPS screens).

Don't bother with him. His answer will be exactly this: "Just because you don't see ghosting it doesn't mean it's there...." The whole point is you have to see it if it's there. And all this comes from exacting analysis of unknown sourced Youtube videos.

Either way in the 23" size I love the Asus PA238Q. The Dell U2312HM would be another solid choice. Both are very good screens with LED back-light, and a good, solid array of features. Get whichever is cheaper or better supported in your part of the UK OP.

The 24" space would be the Dell U2412M or ZR2440W. Both are LED back-lit and should be solid all-rounders. The HP ZR24W is also a good choice nowadays too.

The Dell U2410 and Asus PA246Q are "brothers". Both sport wide gamut 24" panels, but only a small part of the Adobe RGB camera toting and printing population uses this feature. Otherwise stick with the sRGB gamut screens listed above.
