need some help with SLI

ok guys, I'm gonna do it!! I'm gonna 580 GTX SLI. Now, I've never done anything like this before...are the FAQs here at the site enough, or am I going to need some more info? If I do need more info, is there a really good guide that anyone can point me to? Doing 2 580 GTXs on an Intel DX58SO2....Also have a 1200W Antec High Current PSU, and am kind of assuming that that should take care of any needed power requirements....

The power supply will provide plenty of power
There isnt too much to learn about SLi really, and there is enough information here to learn! Enjoy it, whenever youre feeling down, look in your case and you'll instantly feel better about life.. LOL

yes, hehe I have already noticed that happening to some extent...but one thing I specifically remember was this little widget that makes sure the right amount of power is making it to the pcie slots, or something like that...is this ringing a bell for anyone?

Not really. SLI and xfire have come a long way. Should be plug and play. You will notice a increase in fps of anything between 50%-95% depending on the game.
Just make sure you have an SLI bridge and your all good.

Your 2 cards will be in slots H and F (see diagram 1 below). With no empty slot space in between them, the top card will be hotter than its present state. Expect the temp of the top card to be 10-15C higher than the future bottom card.

It seems to me that the only cooling solution for the cards is the side panel 200mm fan of the Level 10 GT. This fan has low static pressure and its air (even though the volume is high) will not be able to penetrate much into the narrow gap between the 2 cards. Therefore, I suggest placing a 120mm fan right behind the harddisk compartment, directly in the front of the 2 cards. See the blue square in diagram 2 below. The fan will probably be fixed in position by zip ties.

This fan will be responsible to force more air into the gap. Although much of the airflow coming from the case front 200mm fan will be blocked much by all the harddisk trays, having one is still better than having one.

I too was using the setup with the 120mm fan that Windfire described when I was running a 580 SLI sandwich and it worked well. Still saw temps nearing 80c under load with custom fan profile (1c = 1% fanspeed) but it's working wonders for my new setup with it's included breathing room.

An interesting idea! I think I will do that smile.gif And will let you all know how it goes smile.gif as a matter of fact, I think I have a new 120mm fan sitting in the closet, just waiting for something like this to happen wink.gif
