I'm currently using the stock HSF on my 2500K. I overclocked my CPU to 4.5GHz earlier and the temps reached 93*C after running Prime95 for around a minute. I immediately shut of my computer and literally said, "Oh ****!". Now I definitely need to buy a new HSF before I perform any kind of OC. I didn't realize how ****ty the stock coolers really are.

Options:
1) I currently have a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 120mm HSF that I used on my E8500 so I could just buy an LGA 1155 retention bracket for ~$10.
2) Buy a Corsair A50 for <$10 when it goes on sale again or an A70 for ~$15.

What do you guys think is the better option?

A70. the s1283 - if it has the orig fan is quiet but weak. you will need to buy extra rubber fasteners to install another fan and replace the orig one, too.

but check this out. i read it is the closest to having water.

I say Option 3: Spend 20 bucks and get a hyper 212+ since I assume the E8500 is still in a pc somewhere and this way you dont use a ****ty cooler on it.

DisappointMe - yea...I wasn't sure what to expect with the temps on the 2500K. I'm willing to spend around $25 max. I always try to get the best performance per $ and I don't see any justifiable reason to spend any more than that with the options in the $25 price range.

rdr09 - look at the prices I'm dealing with in the OP...nowhere near $69.99

Junkboy - the E8500 is actually being sold. I was also considering getting a Hyper 212+ but it looks very similar to the Xigmatek I already have. Is it really any better?

Oh, no it is not better actually I was thinking maybe you were keeping it for folding or giving to someone but if you're gonna sell then by all means buy the bracket and put a stock heatsink on the dual core.

if you look closely the 212 has 4 heat pipes. that is the difference. you are right. no sense on spending too much.

IT does ever so slightly better. 1 maybe 2C at the most. Here's what you can do though, get that mounting kit and slap a better fan on the Xiggy. With a better fan it'll cool excellent. I know with my DK, the fan that came with it is better than the HDT S1283 and cools a bit better.

But yeah, the S1283 is leaps and bounds better than a stock cooler.

So if you don't feel like waiting for the Corsair products to go on sale, just get the bracket for your Xiggy.

Junkboy - I've already sold my old motherboard and RAM so the E8500 is just waiting to be shipped.

BlackOmega - what fan would you recommend that I get? With the purchase of the new bracket and fan that will put me over the price of the A70 which comes with two fans. Hmm...
