Budget BF3 build!

Thread Starter
I just bought BF3 and can't wait for it to come out in a few days

I'm looking to build a cheaper computer for my friend whos budget is around $400. (You can exceed this but the ultimate goal is as close as this as possible)

I wanted to start with a AMD X4 PII 955 and maybe a GTX460? I'm not very updated on newest parts so help me out!

Yeah Hyper Threading does jack all and there is hardly and difference in CPU quad core performance for BF3 , 2 cores take a Hit.

What's your friend's resolution? For $400 he's not going to be able to play at to high of one very effectively.

had a hard time deciphering this...

OP, here is a great price/performance build I always suggest to people with low budget (~$400-500):

i3-2100 -$120 (if you don't need to overclock)
H61 board -$50
4gb ddr3 (any speed, hardly makes any difference in games) -$25
HD 6870 -$150 after rebate
OCZ modxtreme 500w -$35
case of your choice -$30
TOTAL: $410

I'm unsure about the performance of an i3 to a Phenom in BF3 so I have no say. Does your friend need a monitor, mouse, or keyboard? Surely Windows is out of budget.

The peripherals are taken care of already. However, a case will need to be purchased. I am unsure of the monitor size but I was gonna opt with a 6870 just in case he upgrades the monitor down the road anyways.

I'm thinking about the i3-2100, are the mobos really only $50?

That's a totally different i3 than is being suggested.

BF3 seems to be one game where the i3 2100 is not better than the phenom ii x4s

Would refurbs, and open box stuff be considered? Howabout microcenter deals?

PSU modular $30 amir:http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=330...y&promoid=1208

2x4gb ddr3 1600 cl9 45$ http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=578...n&promoid=1208

GTX460 1gb HAWK 128$ http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=554...SI%2FMicroStar

Or 6790 1gb for $99 amir with promo code : http://www.Newegg.com/Product/Produc...tem=14-131-397

Nzxt source 210 elite for 50$ shipped from amazon.com

Thats around $420 or 450 amir.

Nzxt gamma and 4gbs of ram could make it 400, or if you don't want sli/ cross fire in the fututr you could sacrifice the mobo for a little bit cheaperr one.

Doh no hdd. Well hopefully this is helpful
