@gorb:
My personal setup, the subwoofer gets directional at 80Hz crossover point. My dad's Klipsch 2.1 setup is set for 120Hz, and you can plainly hear where the subwoofer is at (hidden). Heck, if the fronts are disconnected on his setup, you can hear the words coming out of the sub.

I suggest based off personal experience, nothing more. That's why I find it important to be shooting for a 60-80Hz crossover point (or lower, but 60Hz tends to be a sweet spot to me). That's also why I suggest matching speakers all around for 5.1 or 7.1....because my 7.1 consists of unmatched speakers and its obvious.

Yeah, I didn't want to call anybody out in particular because different speakers and subs will definitely sound different to different people in different rooms

While 80hz is definitely a good point to aim for, some people elect to cross their subs over higher even when their speakers are capable of playing much lower. There's a guy on another forum who has Paradigm S8 mains but 3 dual opposed TC Sounds LMS-5400 custom subs (that's 6x18" lms-u drivers) and he crosses over at 120hz because it gives him the most even bass response in his room.

Those speakers are all AWFULLY small. So expect to be missing mid bass, or have a very directional subwoofer. Otherwise, they shouldn't do TOO badly. And I very highly doubt that subwoofer will go as low as it claims either.
These speakers don't sound as small as they are. I think there are better options for stereo setup though.

Do you really need 5.1? It pays off to buy a great pair of speakers for your stereo front pair and then add speakers as necessary for surround if that is what you want. It pays off in the end.

If you want to try and put together a system on a budget than check the third post in the thread linked in my thread. I wrote about all the places I go to find great speakers at great prices.

In fact I just picked up an Energy ES-8 subwoofer for $8 today at my favorite thrift store. I'll be playing around with it and then probably selling it at a profit.

Yeah I want to be immersed in the sound. I thought the speakers linked, the Bic Venturi would be good enough for surround as long as I got a good woofer like the LSP 200 or F12. Unless there are better options for a bit more cost, i think i want to get a decent 5.1 system. I don't need audiophile grade speakers as of right now.
