GTX 580 idle temps

I have a EVGA GTX 580 Superclocked and I was wondering what kind of idle temps you get. With driver ver 280.26 I get idle temps of 40C. With driver ver 285.38 I get idle temps of 60C. Full load temperatures are 86C on both driver versions. Is this normal?
What 3DMark Vantage graphics score should I be getting and also, does an Intel i5-2500k running on stock clocks bottleneck the GTX 580? Thanks

There's no bottleneck with a stock i5 2500K at stock but idle temps are not supposed to be anything over 40-45c. In a well ventilated case I see idle temps of 33 for top card and 29 for bottom card. It's amazing what a vapor chamber can do.

Do you know if the cards are downclocking or not when at idle? Do they maybe hang at 405MHz instead of 51MHz?

That could be the difference between the drivers. 405MHz could definitely hurt the temperatures.

I believe the card was running at full clock speeds at idle right after start up on the beta drivers.

if it doesn't fall to 51MHz after a while on desktop, you should go back to the latest WHQL drivers.

as seen on some blogs the gtx580 its kinda hot card.. that card its like 80c on load and 30-35-40 at idle but the SOC edition i think about 85 load 40-43 w/o load yes it is normal you are cool man.. that card it is made to run hot because the more performance a card has the more hot it runs thats a rule!! i recomend you to watercool your card if not install the afterburner driver.. hmm and the i5 2500k its a "beast" it is very simmilar to the i7 2600k it doesent make alot of difference on the performance.. the i7 its like 10% or 15% better than the i5 thats what im thinking thats my opinion.. it doesent bottleneck the gtx580 at all!! if you have a good m/w you are absolutely fine mate!! about the 3Dmark vantage just make the test and see with your self the score you will get.. your rig is absolutely fine.. just overclock your cpu with a h80/100 to 4.5ghz and more!! or if you preffer air cooling try the thermalright silverarrow its one of the best !!air!!coolers arround at the moment or maybe for a long time its 4% better than the big noctua cooler sorry i dont remember the name.. soo take care mate i hope i helped.

sorry for my sucky spell.. :/

That is what I did, and it is back down to 50mhz. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same thing happen to them.

yeah, sorry mate. I don't use beta drivers unless I'm having problems with the whql, so I wouldn't know. My baby is just for gaming, so whql is usually trouble-free, especially since I have 2 in SLI wink.gif

And about bottleneck, any mobo and corresponding cpu (whichever i5 or i7 edition, sandy or not) released after than x58 (including them) won't bottleneck even 4 x 580gtx smile.gif

Idle around 37C-40C, while playing Shogun 2 temps have reached close to 85C/81C on 2nd card with 86% fan speed.

Go in your nvidia control panel and make sure that power management is set to "adaptive".

Sometimes it takes 3-4 minutes of inactivity for the card to throttle down, minimize everything and keep an eye on AB for clock speed, it should go down.
